Need advice - Buying 04 4runner

I think it was the sunroof. I have to find another one without the sunroof and see if that makes a difference.

itll be about 2" taller. I lowered my seat to accommodate with my sunroof.

Well, not sure what was happening on the other one, but I drove an 05 today and it felt much better. You don't sit as high up in a 4runner as I thought you would. You are much lower to the ground than I expected. This one felt much more comfortable. It rode like a top. I just had that feeling like, man this thing can go through anything.

It is more $ than I wanted to pay, but in general getting something with lower miles is worth it right? Or are these things so bulletproof that the milage doesn't even matter? In other words I can find an 04 or 05 with over 100K for about 4k less.

Is there a fool proof way to rid a truck of a smoke smell? Prior owner was clearly a smoker.

Can you patch burn holes in cloth? The smoker left some marks in other places...

Thanks Mace4runner. I have gone to check that vehicle out. It has not been drivable for at least two weeks. Their story is they had to replace the 'master brake cylinder'. The part 'is on order from California'.

Yea, its tough to find a clean example of what you are searching for... but just keep looking... you will find it.

I wonder if the firstone that you drove... if they did something with the seat when they added that leather, and heating to the seats.

that is aftermarket -- so maybe they added more padding for a shorter driver or something?

I have looked at three of these in the last six days and made arrangements to look at a fourth. Out of all four only one is still available. They have literally sold within days. Is this just an odd market or do these vehicles sell that fast?

Now I can scour these boards for fun stuff to do with it.

Very nice! Looks pretty clean.

Not to be a negative Nancy, but keep an eye on that rear hatch. I see a lot of orange peel on it in the one pic (near where the license plate goes), as well as some differences in the finish... May have been repainted.

It handles differently than I expected. I'd describe it as tighter than other trucks I have driven. Bit of a bumpier ride than my tundra, but overall smoother - more fun to drive and turns on a dime!

Do you all put regular unleaded or go for super?

I use regular in my '03 V8. I don't know what the V6 requires, but I'd guess regular would be fine.

04 V8 4WD with just over 201k.. Runs great. Regular oil changes are key with quality oil and filters.

I got an 04 with the same mileage about six months ago and roughly the same price. Great truck. Just a quick word of caution, I had to replace both cats (bank 1 and 2) on my 04. If you do a search you will find that this can be an issue with earlier 4th gens. Most of the time it's an O2 sensor, but unfortunately my issue was not. Other than that the truck is a beast. You won't regret the purchase.
