Need advice on a 1999 Limited Im looking to buy

Hey everyone! I was hoping to get some input. I'm in the market for a used 4runner. I'm looking at a 1999 limited with 198,000 miles on it. I know these things are beasts but is that too much millage for a 1999. They want 5,995 for it. I think I can talk him down to 5,000. What should I look for when I go test drive it? Any Info would be appreciated. Here is the link for the truck.

It looks like it is in good condition, but I don't think I would pay $5,000 for a car that has 198k miles. On that site is says it has 185k.

It MAINLY depends on the overall condition of the vehicle. If it has been taken care of, 185k isn't bad at all. But if not, or if you don't know, then it is a crap shoot. The transmission could go out when you're driving out of the lot. Try to see if you can get some maintenance history on it.

what does the CARFAX say?

pull the VIN# and give it to a service advisor at a nearby Toyota dealership and see what they can tell you about the service history.

Price seems high for that high of mileage for a 96.

At this point, everything should be checked, especially if you can't have the history of the vehicle.
I would check: timing belt and water pump, rear axle seals, front brake including caliper pistons, o2 sensors, u joints,

I would also check the radiator and replace it if it has more than 100k on it because the tend to mix coolant and tranny fluid...

As for the price, they go for way more than that where I live...
A 99 limited sells for around 11000$ here(in perfect shape).

Even out west a pristine example of a '99 Limited with say 110k on the odo still is hard pressed to go for anything over $10k;I was just on autotrader looking at values of Colorado's Runners and they have taken a hit since gas prices dabbled over $4/gal.

I live in canada, quebec. And 11000$ is considering the hit they have taken.
