I have a 1997 Toyota 4 Runner that is 2wd. I really haven't done anything to it yet besides new tires, wheels, and stereo system. I was wondering if anyone had advice on what i should do to make it perform better in the mud? I am planning on buying a locker for the rear end and was wondering if anyone had some suggestions? Thanks

Knobby tires!

If money isn't an issue then get an ARB air locker. U get the best of both, open diff on the street n a full locker off-road. Plus u can use the on-board air to air ur tires back up after going offroad. If the budget is an issue then a spartan locker is a good choice. Also maybe consider a dedicated set of mud tires just for the rear. An ARB n some 31" Boggers! You could be dangerous!!!

$1000 in tires and a $300 Spartan locker is about all you can do (you could spend more on the locker, but you don't need to).

Or you could sell your 2wd and use the proceeds and that thousand dollars to get a 4wd. Lockers and tires are nice, but they're no substitute for having all four wheels spinning.

Thanks for all the help! I have been considering the Spartan locker for some time now but not sure how good it was because of the lower price. I have 31" Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs on right now that i purchased about 10 months ago.
