Need Advice: Rear Window Mount Broke Due to Rust & Rot

Tried searching but no topic on exactly this problem that I could find...

My '04 SR5's rear window all of a sudden would only go up on one side so I thought it may have come off a track or something. So I pulled the panel off and got in to inspect.

What I found was that the driver's side metal bracket, which bolts to the window, actuall broke off. So the mechanism that moves up or down is now seperated from the mount on the window. Both sides are very rusted and that obviously has been from rain getting down there.

Anyway, can anyone advise on how I can fix this? even if I fixed the broken one, the other side looks like its going to break soon too. It seems like it would be very involved trying to get in there to replace...if that is even an option. Maybe a new (used) entire door from salvage yard? This is a real bummer as now I have an open back window...probably will have to get plastic taped up till I find a solution.

This may sound a little ghetto. But you you build a mount from job weld? Just fill the rusted spot with JB and be done with it?

If it wasn't for the entire inside unit looking like a POS, I would consider that. Plus, the access is so tight it would be really hard to get in there and clean it. The other side will need it too as that is about to go.

I decided to order the regulator sub-assembly & my local garage guy says he can fix it...has done others.

Is that link you provided where you bought the assembly from? I believe that's what happened to my 4runner too. I'll have to open it up to see when it gets warmer. Did you think that it would be too much of a hassle to attempt to do it yourself?

DaveK22, I had the same problem, but when we opened the back panel, everything was rusting. I need new regulator, motor, latch, window with metal seal (only sold that way apparently), plus the electronic control unit (the original ecu is not compatible with the motor assembly.) Talking $2400. Has anyone else seen this problem?

My mount just broke the other day well going over rough roads. I was able to get the window back up, but now I can't open it. Has any one found a solution?

Can we confirm if there is more than one type of regulator for the 4th gen rear window liftgate?

Mine looks more like the earlier generations with a big x, vs the cable-type like the one linked above..

2003 v8 limited.
