Need advice/repair help on 89 Toyota Pickup

Hey guys, found a 1989 Toyota Pickup, 5 spd, brand new tires on it for $675, body average with a little rust. It needs a shift fork replaced. Anyone know how much this should cost me to do myself/what I need to do? A write up would be great/advice on whether or not to buy,thanks!

Internal transmission work is going to beyond most do-it-yourselfers here. However, we can be helpful and point people in the direction of where they can get the answers.

For the same reason I point people with turbo questions to a turbo related forum. If you are not familiar with Marlin's products and forums, I will tell you they are the authority on driveline realted topics. No intended slight towards this forum but there are topics that are obviously outside the abilities of most of us that visit here.

Honestly, this forum is great and it has it's place, but for the guy with engine or transmission problems this isn't the place to be. There are a few that know what they're talking about around here, but it makes a whole lot more sense to go somewhere where there are hundreds of people that can help. Marlin is great but all they do there is push you to buy parts from the marlin store. If you want serious help I'd try TTORA and Yotatech...

Guys, give the kid a break and stop bickering.

GP, for what you paid for it, you can afford to buy a used transmission for $100-$150, slap it in and move on. Don't ever crack a case unless you really know what you're doing. It's not worth the trouble.
