Hi! I'm new. Ok I own a 1998 Honda Civic. My husband owns a Honda Civic. All I have ever driven is a Honda Civic.
I never thought I'd say this but... I'm thinking of switching. I live in a rural area and it would be nice to have something more rugged with 4 wheel drive to get up big slippery hills in winter. I drive on steep gravel roads at times. I own a horse and with that comes hay, tack etc that I would like to lug around. SOMEday way down the line I may want to pull a Brenderup horse trailer.
So... after looking into different options I am seriously considering a Toyota 4Runner. I want a used one. I want 4 wheel drive, automatic. Doesn't have to be fancy, new... but has to be RELIABLE and get me to and from work every day. Also prefer not to have a rollover accident. I know the newer ones are safer in this regard.
I'm debating over V8 vs V6 b/c of the possible horse trailer in the future.... BUT being used to a Honda Civic I don't know if I can take the shock at the pump if I get the V8? Right now I have a friend with a trailer so maybe it's silly to worry about since I may not ever need one?
I am concerned about all the various recalls, hard to keep track of them all.
Are older ones better in terms of reliability and gas mileage? Which years have serious recall/safety problems that I need to look out for? Which "generation" is best do you think? Thanks for any advice/tips.
