Need Advice

I need some advice. I have a problem, here on Long Island there are nothing but Jeeps everywhere you look so naturally all of my friends have Jeeps as well. Here's where I need advice in 2 weeks me and two of my friends are doing our first real off roading trip to Rausch Creek Pennsylvania. I am not the best driver offroad neither are they they think they have me beat already because one of them has quadradrive and the other has a lock right locker in the rear. I have some improvements on my truck mainly protection such as a steel front bumper and a full set of skids as well as a lift and all terrain tires but I do not have lockers. Now my question to you is how do I show these guys up I know they are my friends they are really good friends but when it comes to the trucks we get very competitive. Call me whatever you want I know a decent amount of guys on here hate Jeeps so I was wondering if any of you have advice. There trucks may be better then mine right now but I want to be better prepared then them.

Hating another model of truck is quite honestly stupid and encourages people to diss each other and put a stop to a lot of fun. Be as competitive as you want but don't bring the brand of truck into it. If you want to show them up read up on technique because a stock truck with a capable driver will beat a built truck with an inept driver.

Edit: I love Toyotas and have owned only Toyotas since 1973 but I hate wheeling with just Toyotas because it gets boring and feels like high school cliques felt way back when. I dislike the "my brand of truck is better than yours" mentality so much I started a club in Colorado that's just the opposite. Not only are the people great but so is the variety of rigs.

I agree. I've seen guys take a front wheel drive car up some crazy stuff. Read up on how to be a good driver.

I've owned several Jeeps and am continally impressed with the capability of the 4Runner.

Don't make it a pissing contest, you'll only end up breaking something other than your ego.

Good call right here. If this is your first real off-road experience don't ruin it by breaking your truck. Things can get real expensive real fast.

I used to have a 97 Jeep Wrangler. You didn't say what kind of Jeeps your friends have. If they have lockers I doubt they're Patriots or Compasses.

Wranglers have great front/rear angle of attack and are hard to beat when it comes to four wheeling on rocks. Maybe just work to the 4Runners advantages and load up all kinds of gear in the extra room you'll have in back. Every time they need a beer, toilet paper or a place to keep their tent you can just drink, wipe your ass and take a nap.

OP, the only thing that is for certain is that where your mind is right now, this is going to end badly for you, your truck, or both.

Just go out, have some fun and don't do anything stupid.

I went wheeling a year ago with my bone stock 2003 4Runner V8. I went with two jeeps, a lifted Cherokee and a stock Wrangler. My stock rig did better than both of them. They were struggling to get through the mud while I just went right through with no problem. I didn't brag about it, but in my mind I was laughing about it because they were already bashing my truck ("Sure you can come, as long as you bring tow straps for when you get stuck") It seems like Jeep people always think they're the best, for what reasons? Idk. I know, that's a generalization because some people with Jeeps are pretty cool, but that's my opinion/observation anyway.

Do what is comfortable for you on the trail. These 4Runners are extremely capable trucks and although you don't have lockers, you have ATRAC which is almost as good and works beautifully. But if you want to rub it in a bit, you can always take shots at their pathetic drive train compared to yours. But that's just me, haha.

But as others have said, the important thing is to get out there and have fun. Respect all other trucks on the trials, you never know when you need them to pull you out and vice versa. It's a lot more fun when you can just go through the trail without worrying about things like "He went through this, so I HAVE to go through this too, hope I don't break anything." Just have fun, take pics, exchange compliments about each other's trucks and it will be fun.

I live about 20 minutes from Rausch Creek. Have wheeled my lifted Rubicon and Lifted Fjcruiser - I would NOT wheel my stock T4R at Rausch.
Great truck but not properly prepared - accident waiting to happen. NOT because of short falls in the rig but because of the inevitable egging on on Buddies.
Have fun, be safe, damage nothing.

There's an old story this reminds me of...

Two guys have identical cars and both want to go faster. One guy spends 4k on a huge turbo, intercooler, and programmable computer. The other guy spends half that on driving lessons at his local racetrack, while leaving his car bone stock, and maybe getting an alignment.
Guess which guy wins the race (hint: He gets 20mpg on the way home and passes a smog test the next week)?
