Need cassette adapter that works with '03 JBL 6-disc changer

Hi. I bought a Sony CPA-9C cassette adapter so that I can play my MP3's player through my 6-disc JBL stereo.

Unfortunately, the stereo doesn't accept the adapter. It gets jostled around for about 20 seconds, then spit out.

I've tried switching the direction of tape travel, rewinding, fast forwarding, etc., but this Sony adapter just isn't working on the JBL stereo.

I'm bummed because a lot of people had recommended this Sony adapter's sound quality.

Does anybody else with this JBL stereo have a cassette adapter that they can recommend?

I had this problem a loooooooong time ago. I can't remember what it was exactly but i think it was either there is no resistance on the tape wheels or there is a tab that the deck needs to sense. Try looking at an old cassette and see if there is any differences with the adapter. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Does it sound like it wants to keep switching the tape direction? It may even be it is getting too much resistance and that you might want to cut the tabs off the wheels. That is just a suggestion though. I don't want to tell you to do that if you plan on returning the adapter.

The Sony adapter looks and behaves just like a regular cassette tape...the wheels move in tandem without a lot of resistance, etc.

I'm not going to return it as it was a mail order item and would cost more in postage and time to return than it originally cost.

Maybe I'll go to some local car stereo shops and ask their advice. If they recommend a cassette adapter, I'll have them try it out in the parking lot before I buy it.

FWIW yesterday I went to two local car stereo installation shops and asked if they carried any cassette adapters. I held up the cassette adapter that didn't work in my stereo so they'd know what I was talking about.

Employees at both places shook their heads "no" and looked at my cassette adapter like I was dangling a plague-infested rat. :awais:

I guess they'd rather charge customers $$$$ for a custom solution rather than $ for a simple adapter.

Anyway, I'll ask the kind readers here one final time...does anyone have any firsthand knowledge of a cassette adapter brand/model that works in a 6-disc JBL changer?

I just use the PIE adapter on my JBL system. I can then plug in anything with RCA plugs or with an adapter anything with headphone plugs.

Before I got my Neo for the ipod, iused a little Belkin tape adapter I bouth at Target for like $20 or so. It spit the tape out a couple of times till I bend the wire up and out of the way a bit before inserting. It workd fine then although it sounded a bit noisy in the tape drive. Sound was OK. SO maybe jus bend the wire a bit so it provides less resisteance on loading the tape. I think the tape unit is not able to load it properly and spits it out then.

Why bother? The sound quality will be unbearable anyway. My Sony cassette adapter worked exactly as designed....but it sounded like crap.

Take the plunge and get either the Neon interface, the PAC interface, or one of the other Aux-in adapters. You won't regret it.
