Need Diagnostic Help: Engine died while driving on freeway/ Now won't start

how did you inspect the timing belt did you pull the entire cover: and look at the entire thing or just a top cover a lot of times the teeth come off the belt around the crank before they do around the cams I would pull the entire thing and check it

I pulled the passenger side top cover and inspected it while cranking the engine. I didn't see any excessive wear on the belt, but then again I guess I couldn't really inspect the teeth that way.

Are you thinking that possibly in the cold weather some of the teeth on the belt could have been lost which would then put the timing out?

Sorry man, I got nothing...

But you could be on to something. Sorry, wish I could be more help.

yes....turn the motor over by hand and align the crank mark on the pulley with the 0 on the lower cover and see if the notch in the cam pulley lines up with the line on the cam seal cover. Not the T mark- the line

Ok I think I know exactly what it is. I seen this before. Your cam sensor wire is cut. Whoever did the timing belt and water pump either routed the cam wire incorrectly and been rubbing on the timing belt till it's damaged enough to lose signal. Or during removal and install of water pump the wire was cut/damaged/pinched and finally showed itself. Sorry I forgot to look up the c codes you had. I was thinking they where just abs codes. I'll look up the c codes again to make sure but what I said sounds like your problem. Pull the driver side upper timing cover off and look at the wires behind the belt area near the cam gear and follow it down till I can verify. I just started using tapatalk and I get lost at what fiord I'm on and also doesn't show signature or avatar pix.

Damn. Just checked and looks like all your c codes are abs related. Scratched what I said above but it still could be something you could check. Other than that I would make sure timing belt didn't jump and check spark as someone said earlier

Problem Solved!!

Ok, so good news. I finally found the source of the problem. The crank shaft position sensor wire had come loose and was rubbing against the serpentine belt. This ended up cutting the wire in half which caused the engine to shutdown immediately to protect itself. I properly rerouted the wire and spliced it back together away from the serpentine belt and now my rig runs like a champ. However, in the process I also located a coolant leak coming from the junction of the water pump and engine block, so now I need to fix that. Thank you everyone on here who helped with the diagnostics.

On another note. I purchased an ELMS 327 Wifi OBDII module and the iOBD2 app for my iPhone to help diagnose the problem and it worked great. I would recommend it. I originally had the codes scanned at Autozone, but they didn't find the P0335 crank shaft position sensor code. The iOBD2 app did. It has a lot of other cool features too.

Wish i saw this thread sooner, the same thing happened to my Yukon last year, just cut off going about 80mph. Would crank but not start, turns out it was the crank positioning sensor and fuel pump.

How did you access the camshaft sensor to splice a new piece on? Dealing with I think the same issue but not much give. Going to try to drop the skid plate and unplug it to see if that gives me enough slack, but wondering how difficult/of a time you had? Can you tell me a bit more?

Since it's been 10 years since the OP had this issue and solved it, you need to get his attention by either quoting him or mentioning him or both which will send him a notification, otherwise he may never see your post/reply!!
I'm doing both here in my reply so hopefully he will see your questions!
