anyways to make this v8 faster
more pop on the accerleration you guys have any ideas

Ahhh!!! I see a fellow Brooklynite with a V8 lookin for more speed. I just order a performance exhaust for my 05 v8. Which engine do you have, the vvti v8 or the 03-04 efi v8. They are basicly limited to performance mod. NO header, Supercharger or intake available yet.:(

im reasonably sure they atleast have a supercharger out

they make one for the tundra 4.7... so it would work on the 4runner 4.7.... the whole VVTi thing im not really up to date on... except the VVTi has about 30 more hp

There is a supercharger kit out for the 05 4.7 VVTI. I forget the name of the company but they are based out of the west coast of FL.

In addition they also have headers for the 4.7 but only based on the tundra's flow.

There are performance chips out there but no one has stepped up to the plate yet.

I have swapped out the oem plugs for upgraded NGK Iridium IX's and that made a noticable improvment in midrange torque and upper RPM Hp.

Other than that...a drop in filter and performance exhaust are about it.

im thinkin about throwing in a filter
dont want a exhaust because i dont need to wake up the block at night when im looking for a spot for 3 hours.
can afford a superchager at the moment
aftermarket headers cant be trusted from previous experience.
so any other ideas and what filter should i go with

After seeing some of the peoples reactions on here, i would say go with TRD as its manufactured by AFE.

Also true flow i believe is a big one here on the board. SE has a great filter but they do not make a size that fits OEM 4runner.

The exhausts on the 4runner are really not that loud. My magnaflow is actually pretty tame.

I usually drive my blown Cobra when I want to go fast.....lol

Other than the mod's mentioned above I don't think alot of aftermarket company's have stepped up to the plate on the 4R's as far as developing alot of hp increase products.

That is a sad, but true statement from my experience. One would think that with all the 03-Present 4Rs out there, some company would step up and make a solid, reliable form of forced induction. I'm banging my head against a wall trying to find something to make my 4R faster. I realize it is an SUV, but I have a sickness to make anything I drive as fast as I can. I installed the K&N FIPK intake and Borla dual exhaust, and that just ain't cutting it. I may have gained 9-15 HP, but nothing major enough to REALLY feel when I mash the peddle. It sounds mean and nasty though. Don't worry about the sound of the exhaust, either. Unless you replace the headers (which I don't think you can yet, short of custom fabricated headers), and unless you take off the cat and go straight pipe, the sound won't be loud enough to wake people up.

franco, I feel your pain....

You are NOT going to see too much HP aftermarket products for ordinary SUVs, especially Toyotas. You may see some change for the new Tundra, especially if they are popular.

Why waste your money? Even with all the mods and thousands of dollars spent you are not going to be able to make it go faster than 110 mph or beat a Cherokee SRT8 off the line.

115 mph actually, and there are ways to remove the speed limiter if only a tuning company would step up to the plate. And a 4runner is pretty competetive with the supercharger, or so i've heard, just gave up the hunt for one today.

i want some head glued to the headrest, knees trembling, hands sweating speed off the line.
i love big fast suv i dont care for the 2 door rockets i like trucks that tear it up :goinposta

Sell your Runner, buy a big diesel truck, drop $10 grand on performance mods and crush 5 liter mustangs...

Get the SRT-8 Grand Cherokee. That thing is wicked fast for a stock SUV....

yeah, the SRT8 is wicked fast, BUT, see how it fares after 30000 miles, gurantee it wont be the same truck as when its new...now the 4-runner, its just broken in at 30000 miles !!!
ive seen cherokees fall apart after 45000 miles...

we have a couple of used cherokee's on the lot where i work and trust me those things are pieces of junk. screw that man ill stick wtih my toyota.

i like my runner wouldnt trade it for any truck (except da porche cayenne turbo and x5 4.8) but a little speed wont hurt.
