Need help. Axle Nut Question.

Hi Guys, first post!
I acquired this 1987 4runner and I am in the process of doing the axle bolts.
It looks like it has a single axle bolt (like the 03 4runner), which to my understanding is wrong.

Any advice to get this off (is there a locking mechanism to this nut?)
Should I leave this nut on there or should I get the proper dual nut setup for the 1st gen?

Thanks for any help

That does look like a single nut on there.

If you don't have a socket that size, you could maybe get a screwdriver or cold chisel sideways on it and spin it off that way. I would, and I'd replace it with the factory setup. The 54mm? socket runs around $25, make sure you get one because you need to torque the inner axle nut precisely to get the bearing preload right.

I do have the right socket. It just keeps slipping off unfortunately.
I guess it's junkyard time
