Need help buying an exhaust!

Hey everybody, I have a base 1999 Toyota 4runner with a 2.7L 4 Cylinder 150 Horsepower engine.

Everything is stock on the car.

I want to buy a loud exhaust for my truck that has a good rumble and sounds nice. Nothing too obnoxious though. I was looking online and I am deciding between the 14" or 18" Magnaflow exhausts.

If you guys could please give me a detailed explanation on everything I need to know about buying the new exhaust, I would greatly appreciate it.

Things I am looking for are:
-What do I need to buy (additional parts)
-Where to buy it from (online or in store)
-Where to install it (don't want to do it myself)
-Price I should be expecting to pay after all total costs are added up.

Personal experiences and stories would be great!!!

anything loud on a 4 cylinder most likely is going to sound like crap/rice. but Since you're younger it probably doesn't matter. I got my super 40 for 150 installed, but it would probably be more since you're in Ca. buying one and taking it to be installed may be cheaper. i would go with a magnaflow 24 inch for a 3RZ.

Buying online or in store is preference, really. Amazons probably one of the cheapest places

for reference I had a super 44 on my 02 ranger 2.3 I4 and it was really loud and ricey at high rpms, not tinny or fart can sounding but very high pitched and it got pretty annoying after a while


BTW have you even looked under the hood of you're runner before? because the 3RZ isn't a "V4"

Ya, you gotta be really careful doing a custom exhaust on a 4 banger. I'm not saying it can't sound good, but you don't want your truck to sound like a riced Honda.


Edit: you should take a look at COBs thread. He has a 2.7 also with videos so you can hear it. He also has listed all his information. He has a supercharger, so keep in mind it sounds somewhat different than it would without one, but it's still a good reference.

I've got a flowmaster Delta 40 on both my 3rz 2003 Tacoma and on my 98 4 runner with the 3.4. It sounds pretty good on both rigs IMO. Also had a Delta 40 on my old 07 Tacoma 4.0l so I guess I'm a fan of the tone that muffler makes.
If I didn't have the exhaust I gave have now, I'd probably run the 14" Magnaflow
