Need help - check engine light on, VSC off, and other features disabled.

I'm not sure what's up. This is the first time this has happened since I've owned my 4th gen 2006. It's a 4x4 Sports Edition.

Anyways, I changed my oil yesterday night. As I've done several times before. I drove around for a bit like I usually do, to see if there were any issues with leakage or....whatever. All was fine.

Today, I get in my car and drive to get some coffee and I see my check engine light is on, VSC has been disabled, and two other features also disabled. There's a curvy road icon and another VSC feature. I've never seen these lights lit up before.

I don't think it's because of the oil change. However, it did rain last night. I opened the hood and I can't find anything wrong. Jumpers look fine, no oil spillage, hell....it looks fine.

What could this be? Where should I start with the troubleshooting?

I do not remember the exact fix, but I had this happen last winter.

I think it was just a bad switch/sensor. My local shop charged me $75 to fix it. I didn't ask to many questions. Been fine for almost a year now....
 
The first thing you should do is go to an auto parts store where they've got a scangauge and ask them to pull the fault codes for you. The second thing (or really even the first, before you head to the auto parts store) is to check to make sure your gas cap is on tightly because failure to do so can result in an error code.

Then just cross your fingers and hope that it's not a misfire code.
 
Update: Did some reading, checked the gas cap, but it didn't resolve the issue. I disconnected the battery for about 20 minutes to see if the issue would go away. It did.

My thinking is that if there is indeed an issue, the system will pick it back up again even after the battery reset.

I reconnected the battery and gave her a test drive in my neighborhood. Issue didn't come back up. All seems well now, but I'll have to continue monitoring.

She's starting to show her age now. Sad to see :(

The gas cap could have been the culprit, but it generally takes a few days after tightening it up in order for the light to go out on their own. If they don't come back on now you can probably assume it was the loose cap.

I just went through the same thing with my '05 Sport Edition.

After re-connecting the battery, make sure you press the rear liftgate window switch "up" for a few seconds to reset the limiter sensor. Otherwise your rear defrost and rear wiper may not work. The computer doesn't know if the rear window is up all the way or not. Just press up on the window switch for a few seconds and everything should be good to go. I went a week without the rear defrost or wiper working. Drove me nuts.
 
Damnit it's happening again, 10 days later from this original post. Started it up this afternoon to go to campus, same features are disabled again with a check engine light. I did recheck the gas cap and it was semi loose. Screwed it back in, but errors remain. Should I disconnect the battery again? If it is the gas cap, how long should it be till the features re-enable and the check engine light turns off?

I had this same issue (with the exception of the Check Engine Light), after a new battery was installed. Local Auto Zone cleared the code, but it came back. After much searching, followed the instructions from the below video over the weekend and voila, problem solved! Hope it helps.

Do not disconnect the battery again. Instead go to an auto parts store and find out what the fault codes are. They will tell you for free. Then you can figure out what to do to correct the problem.
