Need help deciding on a 3rd Gen

I've been searching to purchase a 3rd gen 4Runner for the past few weeks and finally came across two that are worth checking out. Would like your guys opinion on which one to get if all goes well during inspection.

First option is a Gray 1997 SR5 4x4 thats in great shape only has 74,000 miles. Although, the asking price is $12,500. Price seems high and more than I would like to spend. But I understand based on the low miles and great condition.

Second option is a Green 1999 Limited 4x4 also great condition but has 182,000 miles. Asking price is $6,900 and I can afford to purchase this without a loan. I definitely like the add features the limited comes with compared to the SR5.


Any input would be appreciated!

I like the earlier 3rd gens since they don't have the fat lip.
Probably gonna be hard to get a loan on a 21 year old truck. That low of mileage is certainly attractive.

Make sure the timing belt has been done recently on the limited. I think the 3.4 has either a 60K or 90 K interval

I would prefer not to take the loan but like you said the low mileage is hard to resist.

Just got the car fax on the 1999 Limited and looks like it was maintained pretty well. Only one owner and has 35 service records. Oil changed was done give or take every 3000-4000 miles. Did come from Iowa, so will check for rust

Would love to hear if you found something? I am also looking for a 3rd gen. Found a 96 with 93k miles and asking price of $9,900. Super clean. I passed on it, had a leak in the head gasket. He wouldn't budge much on price. Still looking
