Need help diagnosing problem.

picked up a 97 sr5. build and pics later...
when fully floored the vehicle makes a loued squeal. only when floored though.
it sounds like metal on metal type squeal.

any thoughts?

You sure its not a slipping belt? They can sound pretty awful

Nope, I think its brake or tranny related

Does it matter what the speed is when you floor it? If you floored it from a stand still or on the highway going 60 would it behave differently? Try it with your a/c off to rule that belt out. I seriously doubt it could be brakes since it happens when you are accelerating but I don't claim to be an expert

Well its got some exhaust and I can't hear sh*t over it

It's most likely a belt. When you get up to high RPM's especially when the fan clutch is engaged a slightly loose belt will squeal like a piggy.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I have had belts that were so loud you can't hear yourself think. Check them tomorrow in the daylight and see if they are cracked or worn. I replaced all mine shortly after I bought it because they were yelling at me and giving me a complex.

140-ish. I replaced all but timing belt around 155-160. Didn't mess with timing belt since it was done at 99. I did the timing belt at 220-ish again.

Ahh okay. Well there is one bad thing about the runner. 285s in the back and 265/70 in the front? Haha

That is strange. Doesn't really matter though if you are putting them on the totaled runner.

I agree its probably a belt, hose them down with water and try it again. It could also be an idler pully with a bad bearing. Only other thing I can think of is a clogged trans filter. The trans oil pump can make a high pitched noise if its sucking against a clogged filter.
