Need Help figuring this out...

So, for the past few months I've had a "clunk." I've asked a few places and no one seems to give me a definitive answer.

Almost every time I back up and take a hard turn I hear a loud "clunk" and can feel it somewhat in the steering wheel (very little). The other thing I noticed was while driving down the road when I hit a pot hole or something, my steering wheel immediately wants to turn instead of holding tight to where I have it.

Anyone know what this is? I'm really tired of it and want it fixed!

Please excuse me for not responding immediately. I leave tomorrow for a trip and may not get back to you until the beginning of the week.

But anyone with suggestions, PLEASE post up!

Thanks guys!

Doug

What have you checked out at this point? Sounds like you have it narrowed down to the front end, how many miles on your current suspension? How do all your bushings look, have you checked your sterring rack for play?

Haha actually I haven't checked anything out. I remember a friend of a friend who was from Wales (who I could barely understand) said something about the bushings. How easy of a fix is this? Is it a DIY fix of do you need a mechanic to do it?

Steering rack you can do yourself, at least you could on 3rd gens. I had access to a lift and friend who had done this before, but with no lift or experience I'd say its half to a full day job, maybe 4 wrenches out of 10 on a toughness scale. All other bushings are also doable, but as I haven't done them I can't comment. You could look for worn out tie rods as well.
