Need help for Stats project - LBJ questions

So I have a paper for my stats class, and I am writing it on the occurance of LBJ failures in our 3rd gens. I am going to see if lifting has any affect on the LBJs failing prematurely. This is where you guys can help me.

I need to know a few things:

1: Have you had a LBJ failure (whether disastrous or not)?
2: Was your 4Runner lifted?
3: How many miles on the 4Runner when it happened.
4: Are you still running stock LBJs without any problems?

I think that should do for the info I need. Any other suggestions for info I may need?

My LBJ didn't fail exactly, but the bolts sheared off and it did the same thing

1: Sorta
2: Yes 2" in the front
3: 179K, 5K on balljoints and bolts
4: Yes

3.Currently at 222,xxx on factory originals (yes I know I need to change them even though there is no play at all on them)

Yes, minimal damage.


2: Was your 4Runner lifted?

A couple months prior to failure, Tacp TRD coilovers were installed (equivalent lift to 99 Talls), but in hindsight the symptoms of a pending failure were present before hand.


3: How many miles on the 4Runner when it happened.

4: Are you still running stock LBJs without any problems?

yes, i consider failure to be out of spec and no longer demonstrates original drivability characteristics

yes 3 inch ome in front

lbj's replaced at 210k lift installed at around 200k, lbj's appeared to be fine before install

Not sure you're really going to get a large enough sample size to be significant here, plus this population is not really representative of 4Runner owners as a whole, but...

1) No
2) "Lifted" with '99 coils and Trekmaster shocks
3) Currently 191,500
4) Yes, stock LBJs with no apparent problem

Ya, I know its not a huge sample size...for this paper it doesn't really need to be. I am also on a few other forums where I'm posting this question. And I have a buddy who's a tech at a Toyota dealership who can get me some info as well.

4: Are you still running stock LBJs without any problems? Yes original LBJ

3: How many miles on the 4Runner when it happened? Has not happened, but 118K on my 4runner and 15k lifted
4: Are you still running stock LBJs without any problems? Yes original LBJ

2. Yes, 2.5 inch lift in front
3. 172,000 miles, no issues. Lift on since about 110,000.
4. Yes, but I'm replacing them soon as preventative maintenance.

Replaced @236k miles just to be safe-

4: Are you still running stock LBJs without any problems?

No, changed just because. OEMs had no issues that I could find but I now have piece of mind.

--> still an undergrad math class but for JRs or SRs; requires FULL CALC I & II.
--> determining the actual probability of person A's truck experiencing a failed LBJ would be useful. Unfortunately I don't think you can determine that without access to a dealers database. The forum is dominated by certain types of people and isn't a valid sample group. In my opinion, you simply can't make conclusions on so little information. SORRY to let you know.

This is just a small paper on one sample hypothesis testing. Its for my Applied Business Stats class in my MBA program. Between here and the other sources for my info, I'll have around 50 responses. I also have a friends that works in the service dept for a Toyota dealership that can get some info for me. Not a huge number, and by far not enough to get a definitive answer, but its enough for me to reject or fail to reject my null hypo.

I never took any calc in undergrad, not big into math. This is just a small midterm paper than I'll knock out in a couple hours.

Appreciate the feedback.

Was not when recalled for LBJ

3: How many miles on the 4Runner when it happened.
160k ish brought in for recall

4: Are you still running stock LBJs without any problems?
No problems to report of
