Okay guys, tried searching around but can't really narrow down the trouble. This happens occasionally. This buzzing noises comes and goes. Sometimes I'll go weeks before I hear it. That's weird! I can honestly say that I am stumped. Hopefully, [MENTION=66389]BlackWorksInc[/MENTION] will see this thread and take a stab at it. He's a certified Toyota technician and might have some insight.
Where are you hiding the old dot matrix printer?
My pedal has that "buzzing" feel every so often, but doesn't make a noise like that... I'd be interested to see what you find. I take it that it only does it while you're driving?

Actually, if I'm stopped at a light, the sound continues until I shut the engine off wait a few seconds and if I'm lucky the sound goes away.

So seriously... how'd you plug a dot matrix printer into your 4Runner?
Where does the noise sound like its coming from? Driver's side? Under the dash? Engine bay?
Does the brake pedal cause the noise to become worse (i.e. holding it down for a while at the stop light, vs. just having the vehicle in neutral w/ parking brake on or in park and idling), if you're stopped; does pumping the brakes a couple times slowly cause the noise to become worse?

haha. It's coming from the driver's side in the engine bay. Depressing the brake pedal doesn't make it worst. There's no pattern to it. Whether I'm stopped or moving. I'll try pumping the brakes or manipulating the pedal to help determine what makes it worst or go away. It hasn't happened in the last 2-3 weeks. I've checked fluid levels and looked for leaks but to no avail. I definitely feel the vibrations in the brake pedal tho.
Happens at random times so it's hard to take this to the mechanic and ask him what's wrong. I figure I'd ask the gurus here first.

Try this; with Key Off, Engine Off, depress the brake pedal about 20-40 times. After that, turn the vehicle on and let it idle and let us know if that makes the noise happen. The process above should deplete the accumulator tank of all pressure and force the pump to kick in and re-pressurize the system completely. If its the accumulator pump, this should cause it to kick in for a good amount of time which will help rule out if the issue is indeed with the pump unit.

Look behind the center console. You should see a white actuator arm. It is part of the HVAC. I presume it's to change where the air blows out. I had/have a similar noise and it was the HVAC arm moving back and forth for no reason. Still can't figure out why it's doing it. My AC stopped working about 2 or 3 months ago and it's been doing it since then. I don't use the air.
