Need Help! Rear Brake Rotor Stuck

I've tried and tried for the last couple of hours but I can't get the darn rotor off the hub. I've tried penetrating oil, smacking it with a rubber mallet, using bolts in the threaded holes to push it off.

The bolts worked the best and almost got it off but there is a section of the rotor that just won't come off the hub.

Need ideas for what to try next. Please help.

You need to adjust the e brake shoes to contract as the rotor is stuck on the shoes. Don't force it off without contracting the shoes. You will be very sorry. Search for 4Runner 4th generation e brake adjustment.

Wheel Stuck !

Hi Guys,

Sorry to Hijack the Thread, but I can't create a new one :(, I'm recently owner of a 4runner 2004 :)

My problem is that one of the tire is stuck, when I move the car the tire is rubbing against tht floor.

I jacked the car, remove the pad, the caliper and I tried to remove the rotor, but IMPOSSIBLE, i tried with the 2 bolt, nothing. I cant even move the rotor so it align with the E-brake system.

What can I do to unstuck the wheel !!!

Alright, this is going to sound like maybe a dumb question or two, but:

A) are both back wheels in the air so you can freely rotate the rear axle?
B) do you have the parking brake set and is it in neutral?
 
I jacked on side only, the other side is moving.
The e brake is stuck, the light of the e brake light is on, the pedal doesn’t work. I put the car manually in neutre. I dont know what to do :(

You obviously have a problem with the e-brake pedal, once you push it down it will hold until you push it again a little harder, it should then release and come back up, if it doesn't come back up try pulling it up when you push it the second time, the spring in the pedal assembly could be broken and not returning the pedal back up, if you can't pull it up after pushing it the second time you will have to try and find the mechanism in the pedal assembly that locks it in the down position when you apply the e-brake and see if you can release it manually by inserting some tool into the mechanism to release the lock, if you still can't get it to release, the only thing I can think of is to cut the cable, or even better removing the console and disconnect the cable there and thus releasing the e-brake

I pushed twice the spring is working properly. Btw I bought the car that was sitting for a few month, I realized that there is no brake fluid :( , maybe that can help, cuz the car is moving when you use the 4Lo. If that doesn’t help, I will have to remove the console to find the cable...

If you have no brake fluid it will cause the "Brake" light to come on, it will not go off until you get brake fluid in the master cylinder and get the brake bled of all the air in the brake system.

Since your e-brake pedal is coming back up, going under the console to disconnect the cable will most likely not help I'm afraid, I'm guessing since you live in Canada the cable underneath is rusted badly and not releasing the e-brake shoes, you may have to cut the cable going to that side near the where it goes to the wheel, if that doesn't help release the e-brake you will have to just force the rotor off using the 2 bolts and a BIG ass hammer and beat the hell out of it until it comes off, it will most likely help to spray some PB Blaster or other penetrating spray where the axle flange/hub sticks out of the rotor and also around the lug studs as the rotor and flange mating surfaces are prone to rusting together.

Guys I did it!!!!! I remove the center console, disconnect the e brake, jack the car and the wheel is moving :) :) thx everyone
 
I am new to the page and suck at tech, so I need to ask for HELP.
I have an 03 4Runner V8 Limited and I freaking LOVE IT. I got it used 2 years ago (230 000kms) and it's been freaking awesome! BUT!! The emergency brake shoes seized up and I couldn't get the truck to move (had the e-brake on while parked on a hilly part of the driveway for a few weeks, seriously, that's it). My dad has rebuilt engines and does everything for all of our family cars (except bodywork), and he has been LOSING IT on this ridiculous e-brake system... So, we replaced the shoes (pads were literally STUCK in the rotors) so we replaced those, then all 3 cables, and now the rotors... And we have had the wheels on and off more than I can say, (and the shoes on and off trying to troubleshoot) and we've tightened EVERYTHING sooo many times.... We have adjusted the shit out of these up and down, at the star on the e-brakes, under the console, and at the pedal. We can't get the balance where the wheels will spin in neutral, but the e-brakes will stop the car when in motion. And before I changed the rotors today, (but had done everything else), we removed the old rotors (for the 40th time) and the e-brake had obviously been catching somewhat, because the new e-brake pads had created a shit-ton of dust all in them and look scratched, but still wouldn't stop the wheel when in motion. So new rotors, re-adjusting, and the truck still rolls when the e-brake is on. I think it's making him crazy, and I've been there for a while. If you have any ideas on how to set this thing, I'd love to try them. THANK YOU!!

As far as I know, the truck will roll through the parking brake fairly easily even when set properly. Are you testing it with throttle or just at idle?
