need help troubleshooting a problem.

So neither the driver's door or passenger door lock and unlock switch are functioning. yet all the other switches on each door work and the doors lock and unlock when i use the remote. I just picked this 4runner up today, its 99 Sr5.

everything else on it is in good working order. also the doors lock when the car is put in drive and move and unlock when I turn the car off and remove the key.

Anyone have any incite into how to get the switches on the doors to work?

Do you know if it's a factory key fob? If it is, it will have the back window roll down button. Also, I'm not familiar with an auto lock/unlock feature when the vehicle is in drive or when the key is removed on 3rd gens. I would suspect just the switches are bad or more likely a blown fuse, but you may have an aftermarket alarm system installed.

yea it has the factory remote. i was wondering if the auto door locking was factory... or if it was something aftermarket. if its aftermarket I suspect they wired it wrong... and the wiring disabled the lock switches on the doors.

Do 3rd Gens have autolock?

also i thought it might be a fuse but i looked under the hood and in the drivers side fuse box and didnt see one labels for locking feature. anyone know which fuse it is?

It could also be as simple as the little wiring harness for the buttons on the inside door panels isn't hooked up, or someone broke them when removing the door panels to install speakers or new window glass. First thing I would do, is pop off one of the front door panels and ensure the wiring harness to that switch is hooked up and in good condition.

so i pulled out the drivers switches. and i looked at it and everything looked ok. i put it back in and both doors magcially started working. I have no idea how. but im happy it did lol
