Need help troubleshooting vibration

Need some help troubleshooting a vibration issue.

In 2wd mode, turning left or right and accelerating somewhat hard, you can feel a slight vibration.

Today I decided to press my 4WD button on my J shifter to wear it in for the year due to long periods of not using it. I noticed while accelerating hard between 40 -50 mph I can feel vibrations throughout the t4r. Also notice when I then let go of the gas and press again a few times results in a hard "bang" each time?

In 2wd, letting go of gas and pressing it, results in a smooth acceleration.

Another thing I notice, this may be normal, engaging and disengaging the AWD (4wd button) I hear a clunk.

I greased all my joints underneath according to that 8 point TSM diagram.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

4WD is not meant to be used on any hard surface. Only on wet conditions or loose gravel/dirt. The reason being is that you run the risk of severly damaging the gears if they bind up too tight.

AWD is different though.

That might have been your "clunk" noise.

Totally understand, never used 4WD, just pressed the 4WD button to engage AWD. Has others heard noise while engaging and disengaging AWD?

It is always AWD and pressing the 4WD button takes your truck INTO 4WD (and off of AWD)

?? Are The 99 Hiluxes diiferent? Don't they have the same Multimode TC? The button is for 2WD to AWD and the shifter takes it into 4WD on my 99 4Runner

This is correct for '99 and '00 with multimode.

I think the shifter is for 4LO. For those of us without the button, first shift is 4WD and second shift is 4LO I believe.

Thats correct, I have the multimode. 2WD, AWD, 4WD and 4LO. In AWD is where it vibrates and clunks when letting go the gas and reapplying.

checked your driveshaft ujoints or rear axleshaft ujoints for play?

also ive had this problem when control arms or such are worn out and let the pinion change angles during accel and deccel

Do I just put it in park and move it with my hand ?

yea crawl under the 4runner and grab the driveshafts. try to wiggle them back and forth and see if theres any play at all. try to rotate them and push and pull on them. probably want to wear gloves. Check both ends. Honestly Ive always found a bad ujoint because it will start making a popping noise or squeak/chirp while spinning.

As far as control arms I normally figure it out when they make noise as well or I feel some looseness in my axle or excessive movement.

My knowledge is mostly from offroading hard and just expecting things to be broken or worn out so you get used to whats happening.

A little example of what can happen when you ignore a ujoint thats been chirping the whole offroad trip. It can blow up on your drive back home going down the highway. Basically all grease was evacuated over time from water and mud. This was on a jeep tho.
