Need Help with 2005 V8 SR5 Air Conditioner Problem

My 4Runner has developed a strange problem. The A/C only blows cold air on the passengers side and outside air temp air on the driver side. Both sides blow the same flow rate of air. I have tried all the settings, defrost down to feet, temp changes, compressor on and off, etc...

Can't figure out for the life of me what is going on. Did the 2005 Limited come with a dual air option? All I can think is that the hardware for dual air is built into all of them and the control system on the SR5 is simplified with one switch to control both sides.

Any other thoughts or ideas of what to check and replace would be greatly appreciated.

I've seen this a few times on non-dual zone HVAC systems in Toyotas. Its a weird quirk and typically means there's a low refrigerant charge in the system. Still not entirely sure why it seems to act this way.

You have a refrigerant leak, my friend.... Possibly from your evaporator....

Definitely a leak, just had the same problem. Ended up being the evaporator.

$1100 later, AC is blowing ice cold at 28 degrees :thumb3:

Well bought a can of refrigerant and charged it today after work. When I first hooked up the gauge it was reading about 12 psi, way too low, then I charged it and it was reading about 37 to 40 psi and the system was cooling well on both passenger and driver side.

I may have a leak somewhere so I'll monitor the pressure every three day or so and see how fast I'm losing the 134a.

My bumper was sideswiped by a uhaul truck last week so that may have caused a leak in the system. Luckily the body damage has already been repaired but I may have to keep an eye on the A/C.

Here is the damage from the UHaul truck. I had just finished filling Ol Blue up and had just sat in the driver's seat when the truck driver tried some fancy maneuvering and ended up taking a chunk out of the front end.

I would look at the condenser on the front of the vehicle, it may have been pinched/nicked in the accident.
