Need help with Eclipse5435 Problems

I've just have Eclipse Avn5435 installed at the local Eclipse Authorized dealer.I had JBL single cd with 10 speakers on SRS 05 before replacement. Here are the problems I have after the installation.I have very little knowledge Or Not at all with Car audio stuff.I need help from you guys to clarify things I was told by the dealer.

First problem:

I lost 4 connections to speakers (center speaker on the dash board).2 speaker in the back (tweeters) and factory sub. I was told that in order for these speakers and the sub to work I need 5 channel amp or (4 channel amp and 2 channel amp) which costs me another $550.00 on the top of $2050.00 alrealy spent on the HU.It sounds even worse than the Original HU.I need your recommendations to make my system just to sound clear and solid.Help is greatly appreciated or steer me in the right direction.

Second Problem.
My Eclipse HU sticks out about 1 inch from the top view of the dash board.I came across the post from Glennd to use Scosche TA1465B Toyota double din trim ring.Dealer told me that There's NO way to make it look flush as the factory look.Are they correct?

Third Problem:
the installer did me a favor to leave the braking wire unconnected so that i can ground it as soon as I pull me truck out of the lot.
When I can connect it I can see the dvd in motion.But the brake light in dicator is on all the time.How can i make it to come off.

Sounds to me that your dealer should have told you all those things before the install and taking your money. I wish I had the answers for you, but I don't.

Thanks for your comments anyway.They told me that they don't know whether or Not All speakers are going to work until they install the unit.It's hard to believe them at the beginning.I shoud have walked away.I learned a big lesson.

I recommend breaking down and getting an amp (not from them--maybe on Ebay but do your homework) and a sub. I'd recommend something small/self powered in your case--maybe the Infinity Basslink II (again do your homework and get a good price).

I just put in a very nice system in my '05, replacing the JBL and I love the upgrade. I honestly believe you need a seperate amp & sub to reap the benefits of the new deck/speakers that you just had installed. Likely the installer is correct in that the deck does extend 1" out and they can't do much about it....sorry.

My Pioneer Premier does a little, but it looks nearly factory thanks to the color match.

And don't worry about those tweeters in the rear and center channel. If you had installed good 6.5 components in the front door you won't miss the tweeters in the back. The center channel isn't missed at all if your new speakers have decent mid-range.

Hey Mafster,

Thank you very much for your input. I stopped by the circuitcity last night, the installer recommneded that I shoud get one componet set for front and speakers set for the rear and separate amp like you said.Did you use separate amp or the factory amp ( the one that came to the truck)? how many channels do your amp have? Circuity city guy told me to get 6 channel amp in order to have all speakers sound.In your case you are missing the center one and rear two tweeters.Does It sound good without the center and rear tweeters?

I used a separate 10" Sub powered by another amp. This is a pricer and larger/space taking option than going with a self-powered Infinity Basslink II sub which has gotten good feedback on the web & www.crutchfield.com
. You can find it cheaper on the web than on crutchfield's site.

The front 6.5 component I installed came with a crossover unit, so only 1 good quality 4 channel amp was needed to run the installed 4 speakers combos and also put in Dynamat to issolate the sound and help reduce road noise/door vibration. The installer found room in the door for the crossover.

Some people find room under the front passenger seat for the amp. I didn't have that luxury because of the 2 amps I'm running so they ended up going behind the rear seat on a custom carpeted mount. But again, I opted for high end components and wanted ultra-clean power---something many people can care less about or even notice.

I put 2-way 6.5's in the rear doors. Don't go cheap on the speakers and shop/listen to various ones out there.

I did something similar to Mafster. I did not have a JBL setup.

Changed the head unit.

I upgraded all the speakers in the doors(all two-ways), and used some Dynomat in the front doors.

Removeable 1.25^3 ft subwoofer enclosure in the back.

Six-channel amp mounted behind the narrow rear seat. Four channels power the speakers. Two of the channels are bridged to power the sub.

It's my understanding that the stock Toyota JBL amp runs off a digital signal from the stock head unit, therefore they probably tapped into the wires for the front and rear speakers (after the amp) to get them to work. They are correct in saying that you would need a new amp. As for needing new speakers, sounds like a sales pitch! You would have to get an amp with the same power rating (per channel) for the stock speakers.

The head unit not fitting properly sounds to me (though I would have to see it) like pure laziness and unwillingness to modify the existing brackets or fabricating new ones.

Personally I do not trust anyone to work on my car other than myself.

The stock JBL speakers are paper cones with little mids/highs--ala our center channel speaker makes up for some of what is lacking. Once you have clean power to some better speakers and a small, good quality sub, you'll appreciate how much quality sound can be achieved in the 4Runner cabin.

I'm not suggesting you need to spend a whole lot of money to get improved sound, only that you need to finish what you've started to achieve your intended goal and not be dissatisfied as you currently are with the sound. You will accomplish this by spending about $500 (more) for the 4 sets of speakers, amp, and small self-powered sub. Ebay it, but be careful when doing so as there are scammers there (and everywhere).

Webshot, you are absolutely correct about tapping the speakers wire into the factory amp.This is the reason why I was losing trust in them at the installation date.In the first post said, I have very little knowledge of the car stereos stuff.I walked into their shop to ask them how to improve my jbp factory system sound.They told me to replace with Eclipse unit which will sound much better.It costs @2050 with everything included. At the installation date they told me not able to integrate into JBL system and have to bypass.In addition I lost Sub and center ,reak tweeter speakers. They are not properly wiring the speakers instead of tapping into the jbl amp.To make the story short, They want to charge addtional $120 to wire speaker directly.That's reall a B.S. I have no problem to spend extra bucks to get the system sound right.All they care is the money.Anyway,
Webshot,Do you know the specs of the factory speakers so that can buy the right amp for them.Otherwise I will buy 6.5 Infinity Component for the front and another 6.5 for the rear with 4 channel amp like Mafster said to have a better sound.

Here is the problem :

Since you have already commited the money for the nav unit, I would do what Mafster suggests. You would be happier with the system in the long run.

Go to a different stereo shop (with qualified techs) and get yourself a 5 or 6 channel amp with matching separate speakers to go in the stock locations. also consider a better sub.

And have them fix the mounting of the NAV unit in the dash as well.

Any qualified stereo shop would be able to set all this up for you, including the wirring of a center chanel speaker (with the right amp)!

But it will not be cheap! (parts and labor)

The stock JBL amp (unless there is some adapter out there that I don't know about) does not work with the Eclipse head unit. You would need some sort of adapter that would covert the analog signal from the Eclipse head unit into a digital signal that the stock JBL amp would understand.

The problem with using the stock speakers is that the crossover for the mids and tweeters is built into the JBL amp. Finding a crossover that will work with an aftermarket setup and stock speakers will be hard.

It sounds to me like they pushed you into bitting off more than you can chew!

Friggin sales people!

I would help you do it but I'm in Cali and recovering from finishing the system in the Havoline sposored G35 show car for SEMA. I'm beat!

Thank you Soooo...much for your recommendations.I have one question to ask you.I've just received a call from the shop manager where I had my Eclipse unit installed.I called in to complain a few days ago about the sound.He called back to straight out everything. He gave me a quote to have 6chanel
amp JL E6450 installed and to make all Factory Speakers+Factory Sub to work Which will cost me $550. I told him that this JL amp will eventually blow out all factory speakers after few months. I could be wrong. and then I told him what if I want to replace factory speakers (Front + rear Speakers+ sub)
Here what I provide:
1. 6.5 Infinity component from circuitcity(for the front)
2.6.5 loudspeaker to the rear (infinity from CC)
3. I have a built-in TUBE subwoofer (kenwood)

They provide me a jl am with total $700.00.

Shoud I go with Infinity Speakers $700 Or keep Factory speaker for $550.

Without question replace the factory speakers. You will be so glad you did. Besides, your amp will be powering only the doors (if wired properly) so you want clean power to quality components.

Infinity is like any other brand, they have their high end component speakers and their LOW END speakers! Check what you are getting for the money!

If he is installing a 6 channel amp, what is he replacing the the center channel speaker with?

What is the wattage per channel of the amp?

Where is he gonna mount the amp?

Will he upgrade the speaker and power cables from the amp the speakers to handle the wattage?

Will he run 8 gauge or 4 gauge cable to the amp for it's power requirements and will it include a fuse at the battery?

Are they going to fix the head unit to fit more flush in the dash?

Are you sure you want to go back to these bafoons to screw your car up even more?

For the record, you really don't need the center channel speaker if you install good components. It won't be missed in the least. I agree to ask/answer all the above questions before making the leap of faith back to the installer who obviously didn't know what they were doing in the first place.

Mafster, I agree with you to replace the factory speaker.
and Webshot, I really don't want to go back to them.But I stopped by 2 Circuit City and both managers refused to take my truck.They said that they don't want to be held liable for your someone else's work.In other words, My system was already being messed up.They told me either go to independent radio shop or going back the shop where i had the unit installed. Because they are Eclipse authorized dealer.I do appreciate very much for all the questions you mentioned. I will ask them.For the am is JL E6450 with specs 75wx6 at www.jlaudio.com.They will provide power cable but not sure what gauge they use.

I think i'm going to replace the factory speakers with 6010c Infinity component from the Circuitcity. I do appreciate very much for all you info.
