Need help with front drive shaft

Trying to remove my front drive shaft. Its wanting to spin when i go to break the nuts off. So i try putting a wrench on the bolt that is a part of the transfer case flange you could call it.

What size is that bolt head. 13 mm wont fit on it. 14mm is too big.
So i figure its sae for some reason. 1/2 inch is too small. 9/16 is too big.
Also is there any other way to keep the shaft from spinning. Thanks for any help.

Or wedge a screw driver or 12" extension between the shaft and the t-case.

That's not a bolt head on the TC flange, that's the head of a stud. That's why your wrench won't fit--you're not supposed to turn it. Just lock the flange as explained above (either method) and turn the nut.

The front end on the diff has bolts.

And...you still will not be able to remove the driveshaft but.....
When removing the nuts off the Xfer case end of the Dshaft, you will have to tap the studs back out of the xfer case flange.

Keeping the nuts on the studs while tapping prevents brooming or damaging the threads.

At least I had to do this with mine. Could have used a soft faced hammer as well but I scratched my head a while before I knew they were splined studs and not bolts.

I just did my clutch and I definitely did NOT have to do this. Because the front flange is secured with nuts and bolts, when those are removed, you have two facing flat flanges and nothing in the holes holding them in line. The shaft flange slides, the shaft angles down in front, and then pulls forward off the studs on the TC (rear) flange.
