Need help with lift

Just had a shop put in what was supposed to be a 2.5 inch daystar kit on my 97 4runner 265/75/16 rear stock coil spring good shape under prior recall replacement. I specifically mentioned I tow Lot and preferred it level or raked. I don't know what the heck they where doing but I believe they installed a 3 inch front spacer and a 2 inch rear spacer stated specifically by the mechanic. He sald the back was 2 inch and the front was 2.5 although it looks like 3 inch. I had them install procomp 3000 rears as well.

Well the trucks done and of course I'm excited its lifted and drive away but as I look at it more I'm convinced its a 3 inch front spacer and was told 2 inch rear. I thought a 2.5 kit on our trucks was 2.5 front and rear on the 3rd gens? He had just installed one on a 4th gen prior to mine and I think for confused thinking it had the bad rake as on the 4th gens.

Anyhow now my rear wheel well from top if tire to fender is 1 3/4 lower than the front. So now I'm in a dilemma to even it out for me its going to need a 1 to 1.5 inch spacer up front which would give around a 2 inch lift. I'm ticked as to get the 2.5 like I payed for the rear spacer would need to be replaced with a 2.5 and the front redone as well. Bottom line the whole lift needs to be done to get what I paid for. I'm willing to save effort and just sete on a 2 inch overall lift with just front redone. Can you guys tell me with the 1 3/4 sag rear if I need a 1 inch or 1.5 front spacer.

I'm gonna have him redew it but don't want to end up with the front still higher than the rear. Also do you guys think this Is something I should be paying to have redone or the shop should eat? I really don't want to cause a ruckus and didnt get a receipt anyway but I don't have an additional say 200.00 laying around to redew this to what the dang thing I payed for should have been placed to begin with.

How thick was the spacer? If it was 2.5" thick, after preloading the spring will net almost double that. Ive seen a few different threads on here where people did the same kit as you and the exact issue happened. All coils are different and net different lift from preload.

I would not run a spacer in the front of a high mileage truck. I ran a spacer up front just temp while I was replacing shocks and my lower ball joint failed. They put a lot of stress on the front suspension components.

I wouldn't run spacer at all. You pay for what you get.

The spacer measures about 1.5 inches thick. So if its 2:1 that would put it at a 3 inch lift. I didn't bring him the kit he installed it. I guess where he went wrong is even if it was a 2.5 front spacer like he claimed it should have a 2.5 in the rear to match right?

No. Like mentioned already, the old coils will react how they react to being preloaded with the spacers. Where you went wrong was with the kit you had him install. Should've went with a different combo to the desired result. So if it's a 1.5" spacer in the front, you should've gone with a 3" maybe in the rear.
(this is all assuming you specified to hm what you wanted before he ordered and installed it)

The spacer lifts are junk. I believe you mentioned hauling and towing. If so and you have $200 laying around, buy new rear coils. Get some OME 890's or 891's and you'll fix the problem, the right way.

It is 2:1 so would need a 1.25" spacer to net the front 2.5" lift. From what I remember on the daystar kit they would give you a 2.5" front and 2.0" rear and this would level the truck out since stock it has a little rake already. Same with my wifes expedition. Spacer kit was 2.5" front, 2" rear and it makes the trucks look low in the rear. Since your springs are used you are getting maybe less than 2" rear causing the front to be high.

This is the daystar 2.5" leveling kit and if I remember right the rear is only 2" lift to level it out.

Schargedtaco - Is there a reason you started a second thread on this topic? You received some pretty good advice in the first one (http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/165174-new-lift-kit-opinions.html). If you haven't already, check out the "sticky" re: 3rd Gen lifts. It should answer your questions and give you new issues to ponder (i.e. - what effect will a 3" lift have on CV angle with no diff drop?).

I echo other posters' warnings about spacer lifts but I also understand you are going for a particular look and have a limited budget to achieve it. If you are dead set on sticking with your Daystar setup, and intend to swap out the spacers to level your truck, I would at least encourage you to do the labor yourself. I am not mechanically inclined but installing these spacers is very easy. It is definitely not worth paying a mechanic to remove/reinstall these pucks. Although I guess if you can convince the shop they messed up the initial install, redoing it should not cost you any additional money. Best of luck.

i have a pair of OME 891 coils that are brand new, only installed and driven on one day. if you want them ill sell them to you. i need to get me a set of OME 961s so i need to sell some stuff to help offset the cost, PM me if your interested... i also will have some LC 8wraps for sale here soon too
