Need Help with Tire Size *Pics*

These just arrived via ups 5 min ago. They are Yokohama Geolander ATS that I ordered from tirerack last week. They are 265x70 17s. Is it me, or does it look like they will NEVER fit on the truck without MAJOR rubbing. I realize that there is an optical illusion effect going on in these pics, but even in person they look HUGE! Apparently the geolander 265x70 17 is 31.9 inches, where as the normal (calculated) height is 31.6

Shouldn't rub, my tires are the same size and when the guy rolled one out I was thinking that it looked big too. Fits like a glove.

Is that a Discoverer S/T? What about the geolander being 31.9 as most are 31.6inches

A difference of .3 tenths of an inch really on amounts to about 3/8". No big deal. My wheel wells dont look to stuffed at all. Mine are right around that same size within a few tenths, oh and they are Cooper Discoverer STT's.

hmmm. What about when to go 4wheeling? When you hit speed bumps? Do you never get any rubbing?

Discoverer STT 265x70 17 is also 31.9, same as geolander. Guess they will fit!

A Tire will always look bigger before its on the Rim and on the vehicle! You wont have any problem. I am getting the same tire but in 265/65/17(Stock Size). The dealer personally told me that I could go up to 265/70/17 but they wouldn't be covered in my free tire replacement package that I payed extra money for, so I am sticking to stock size and getting the whole set including spare for free!!!PUT THOSE BAD A** TIRES ON SO WE CAN SEE SOME PICS!!!!

I am thinking now maybe I should go ahead and powder coat these rims black. I have wanted to do it for a while, but never thought it would look right with whitewalled tires. Now that I am getting all black, I bet the truck would look sick with black rims. Anyone have any ideas as to how I could temporarily "paint" them black to see how it would look? Im thinking of that stuff that people buy to write on the windows of their cars. It apparently just washed off with a brush. I would love to get some in black and do my rims. Any ideas?

If you look at that website, it claims that this stuff is gauranteed to come of any surface with the "special" remover. They have a limo painted a diff color, and then cleaned off, for example. I would imagine that something as solid and polished as our alloy rims would have no problem not binding to the paint permanently. I would obviously try it on a small spot in an inconspicous location first, just to be sure. Im gonna give them a call and see what they think.

hmm interesting, thanks for the attempt! I think it would be better if on friday I post a picture with the tires actually on the rim. Ill just make a thread asking for some photoshopping. Cant wait to see what it looks like. If im impressed, Ill order some of that temp paint and do it immediately.

At walmart they have a thing in the car paint section that is a spray on bug guard/Cra bra thing. It sprays on and looks black and i guess will gueard against bugs if you are going on a long trip or somehting, and then it supposedly just washes right off (wouldnt think it would be too good in the rain) but that may be good to check out on your rims for a temporary black.
