Need more switches, but where to put them??

I have a 2000 4Runner and have run out of room in the stock switch area (4 there now), and am looking to see where else others have mounted theirs. I really like the Contura II switches (like stock Toyota switches), so would like to stick with those.

I thought about in the steering wheel cover area (that piece that is mounted below the steering wheel), but there is a metal lining on that thing, presumably for a good reason. So, I was hesitant to cut into that. Then, I thought maybe the center console by the shifter (automatic), but there is not enough space underneath, I don't think, for the depth of those switches.

Does anyone make an a-pillar switch pod for our yotas? I know J**ps have them, but they have every aftermarket item known to man. Could I modify one of the J**p pillar pods?

My other thought is to pull my single-din CB radio (Cobra 18 WX-ST II) and put a switch cluster in there and mount the CB somewhere else. It does fit nicely just where it is, though.

Get another power mirror switch and put it in the blank right above the fuse box. Wire the switch where pushing it up turns front lights on, pushing it down turns rear lights on, use the left and right switch and you have even more circuits.

You will need to make up a latching relay with the switch so you would push to turn on and then push up again to turn off.

Nix the map light and make a panel for that space? Could have 4-5 switches I bet. Wiring would be a pain though.

If you have single DIN headunit and no CB below just make a plate for some switches theres rooms for about 3-5 switches depending on what switches you use.

This is my take on it.

(Take the hole out for the light and you could probable fit a 5th)

Have you checked out 12 Volt Guy? Some of the things are a little pricey but they are quality products and offer great solutions.

Screw off, post-booster. At least be a little more creative.


Thanks for all the other suggestions, though. Yeah, 12-volt guy has some nice, but pricey, stuff. Probably just have to move the CB for the easiest solution.

Here is great one! Wire in some cheap white led lights under the body in all 4 corners, wire some leds under the hood and wire then to the dome light.

Also when you open the doors, the Leds will automatically come on letting you avoid the bomb left by the neighbors dog.

That way when you disarm your alarm, the interior lights come on along with the exterior LEDs. So you can see rocks and mud puddles and what not.

The hood always needs some type of light, just to make sure the hamster didn't runaway.
