Need new tires (stock) 265/65-17

I searched, nothing came up that is really helpful....I'm due for some new ones on my '04. 265/65-17 is the size.

This isn't used for off-road, but don't want just a strictly highway tire. We do go skiing once in a while and would like something with a little bite for those occasions.

I was looking at these.....

OR

Any thoughts?

Personally,I think both of those choices are too aggresive a tire for the use you stated.

I suggest going to tirerack.com and doing a search on tires by size. I have the same size and I believe there are some decent choices. Too bad the stock size isn't 275/70's or 75's. The ride would improve but they'd throw the speedometer out. It can be adjusted, though, from what I hear.

It's tough to beat Michelin Cross Terrains. Maybe the Fortera would be a good match. There's a fresh thread on the these tires in the 'perf zone' section of the forum. Tirerack.com is a helpful study resource.

If in shopping you think you want to try 265/70/17's they'll fit. They won't throw the speedo off enough to worry about. They won't rub. The mpg would probably be a wash... The reason I mention that is as you research you'll discover there are more choices in that size and if you're price sensitive they tend to be cheaper.

If your speedo is dead-on at 60 MPH with the stock 265/65/17's, then with the typical 265/70/17's your speedo will show 58 MPH at an actual of 60. I've used my GPS and my speedo is 1.0 MPH high at 70 MPH and only 0.5 MPH high at 75 MPH. Guess I'll see what it says at 60 (omg, can I even DRIVE 60?).
