Need Prepurchase Advice

I'm looking at a 4Runner tonight. It is a 1999 with 81,000 miles. LTD edition. Seller is asking $12,500. Seems a bit high to me. What should I look out for? What do you think of the price?

i would say to high. i paid $8,500 for my 2000 with 144K.

that price IS a bit high, but the mileage is pretty low...I only paid $5500 for my 1999 with 140k, so its more miles, but a LOT cheaper

keep in mind, you will soon need to do the timing belt replacement, and some routine maintenance...

look underneath and see if theres any rust,

As others have said, he's high. Actual high-end selling price of such a unit should be less than 10K on a private sale.

For 12.5 you can pick from newer ones.

yes that price is high

check for all maintenance-in particular the oil changes and their frequency. see thread in this forum "sludge monster" to see what neglected oil changes will do to the engine.

pull vin # and check with a toyota dealer if maintenance has been done by Toyota techs.
