Need recommendation for good HID/HIR or LED headlight system

I currently have morimoto/TRS HID lowbeams in my runner. I am on my second igniter and ballast in 8 months for the passenger side headlight. The first time i replaced it was because the low beam would intermittently not ignite and i wouldnt realize this which eventually led to me getting pulled over. I chalked this issue up to living in maine and my car spending equal time in and out of a garage every day so i figured some moisture got into the wiring from the repeated and rapid temp changes. Now my second set that was replaced in january is flickering and the bulb doesnt warm up all the way.
At this point I think that I am done with the morimoto/TRS brand as they used to be good but as of late the QC seems to be in the dumps. My brother is also using them and has been having frequent issues with igniting and flickering.

SO can anybody recommend a brand for HID, HIR, or LED headlight systems that has been problem free so far?

I used to have OPT7 LEDs installed in my pilot but they bumped their price up and I’ve been having some issues with the set. My friend recommended auxbeam LEDs which he has on his STI for over 2 years and so far... they have been good and zero problems.

Assuming your bulbs are still ok,replace those Morimoto ballasts with

I have been running XenonDepot HID 6000k (low beams) & 3000k (fogs) for about 7 years. Have never had any issues.

That looks good -- did you have to do any modifications for it to fit? And did you have to adjust the bulb so it's not blinding other drivers?

I did not have to do any modifications to make it fit and did not have to adjust the bulbs to prevent it from blinding other driver. I have not had anyone complain directly to me about blinding them, but I don't live in a big city or anything.

I do recommend sticking to 4300k or 5000k as the highest for the low beams. I have 6000k because the younger me loved the blue low beams look with yellow 3000k fogs (I always run both when driving at night), however, the mature me plans to change the low beams to 4300k for more useful lighting.

I have run xenondepot hid's on my 4runner and my previous ISF and have had no issues at all.

+1 for the Xenon Depot HID kit. Purchased the 5000k HID low beam kit and only had mine for a few months but it works great. Clear install instructions and everything connected no problems.

What really sold me was the pre-purchase sales and I had a ton of questions. Robert over there was great and super responsive with emails.

9 1/2 years on a XenonDepot Phillips 4300K HID set. Of all the mods I’ve done to my truck (cost irrelevant), this one remains my favorite.

I have the SR5 package (so no auto-off headlights) and leave my headlights on 24/7. I must have 8K hours on this set and I’m continuously floored every time I start my truck and they fire up. No idea what the expected life of these bulbs is but the package has exceeded my expectations several times over.

im 9.5 years on the morimoto SS ballast, 5fives.

trs has good warranty so let them give you another one, also check the grounds, but i did have some problems on another car and they always took care of it.
you can also use hylux ballast, good stuff.
lightwerkz and trs also sells those.

i still remember the ballast back then was big, i still have a medium size ballast, but these new ones are compact because they have a separate igniter, so parts can be replace easily.

Count me in as another fan of the XenonDepot Phillips 4300K HID kit. It couldn't be any easier to install and the light output is incredible. Probably the best mod I've done to my 4Runner yet.

I've recently installed Xenon Depot HID kit, can't comment on the longevity, but overall the components looked solid. It's obviously no match to the modern OEM xenons and LEDs, but definitely a huge upgrade over stock '06 halogens.

I'm assuming I would need to upgrade my headlight housings from the 2005 to the 06-09' headlights if I wanted to run the Xenon Depot H11 HID or LED kit?
I see they also have the LED kits but the 05' is a 9006 style - 1700 lumens vs 3000+ for the HID H11.
I hate the factory lights but would prefer a straight forward fit and not having to splice factory lighting wiring if I can avoid it.

Yes I believe you do, running HIDs or even LED's in regular halogen reflective housings is really dangerous for other drivers. You need a projector with a cutoff so you don't blind them.

I believe you need a new grill or to modify it, to fit 06-09 headlights flush on a 03-05. Someone with more experience there can weigh in. You may be better off just trying some aftermarket projector lights made for 03-05, although those won't quite have the factory look if you're concerned about that.

There is a Sport version of the ‘06-‘09 lights that are blacked out. My ‘04 came with them already installed when I bought it, but they were an old set that had a leak in one, so I ordered a new set from Amazon. You don’t really “need” a new grill, just the plastic filler pieces below the lights. There is a small triangular area at the inside corner that is not covered by the ‘06 lights, but it is not noticeable at all on my truck being black (not sure if it’s more visible on lighter colors). The light output is really nice, and they look WAY better inmo than the early 4th gen lights. The blacked out housings look fantastic on my black truck, like you I wouldn’t have wanted the chrome version either.

Actually, you don't have to upgrade your headlight housing if you go with the 9006 Xtreme Pro LED Kit! What's great about the Xtreme LED Pro kit is that the bulbs have been designed to match the filaments of a halogen bulb to give you the same beam pattern as your factory headlights.

Here's a great example of that.
