Need reliable service in DC region - had it with Russel

I've had it with Russel Toyota in Baltimore. The 10K service was a series of screw ups including torquing the lugs to 100 ft lbs, not resetting the maintenance minder, and representing that the tire pressure on the spare had been checked and set--which I found out it hadn't been checked when I came down from the Hawksbill trail at Linville Gorge to find a flat tire. The cascade of carelessness makes me wary of Russel's service.

My moonroof has developed that rattle, and I think I can manipulate parts at the back edges and reproduce it, but they want me to leave it for a day so that they can drop the headliner and check the insulation. I'm darned if I'm going to trust them to put it back together and leave it like new, let alone fix the rattle.

Have any of you guys found a dealer within an hour DC that you would trust to fix the moonroof rattles and take care of regular maintenance for the first 25K?

Jack Taylor's Toyota in Alexandria is where I bought my truck and I believe a number of other members did as well. I moved out of town before they had a chance to do much work, so I can't personally attest to much work, however my GF has had her car worked on there for years and is happy (yes, I realize that's a car, not a 4r).

Maybe some of the other members can chime in on Jack Taylor's to confirm or deny my decent first impressions?

Can't help you on the shop...but mine had the rattled, reached up from inside with it vented, 'played with' the accordion type material on the left side a bit, (feeling around, pressing, etc), the rattle stopped and has never returned. Not sure if I was lucky or of there is something that just needs a slight press to be adjusted up there. NO way I would let them drop the headliner for it!
 
I like Jim Coleman Toyota in Bethesda, MD. The Purple Team advisor (Sou) is a good honest, no BS guy. I had my 30K service done by them and also had an alignment done and have no complaints.

That's who delivered my 2011 Limited to me! Great service. Can't speak for the service dept. though. But I was pleasantly surprised with the purchase of my truck.

I have had massive issues with Jack Taylors, along with the service manager's unwillingness to accept those issues as actual mistakes. Much of it is lacking attention to detail, which is what the OP was complaining about. No way can I recommend them. You can give them a car with a flat tire for their 21 point inspection and a tire rotation and get a car back with the flat tire in a new position, your lock nut impact-wrenched, your windshield washer fluid still empty, your interior trim pieces gouged by a massive screwdriver, and the mechanic's fingerprints on the outside of your passenger fender. Of course, the valets there give you the stinkeye when you a walk-around, and the minute you drive off their lot it "wasn't them."

The dealer service stuff is being done at Ourisman Fairfax right now. I can't say I am super happy with them, but when I checked what they were supposed to have done they did what they said they'd do, and they don't make me feel like I am asking for too much for getting that. PM me if you want the name of the front desk person I work with there.

I take my truck to Jack Taylor's as well. No issues so far. Took my Tacoma there as well and didn't have any problems.
 
holy **** man. lol. Well, i just scheduled my 5k check up at Koons Toyota in Tysons Corner. I honestly would have preferred to go through Jack Taylor,since i bought my t4r through them, and they seem nice.

I work in tysons so having my t4r worked on there makes more sense.

Chantilly Toyota has impeccable service. Not only did they do all my customized features for free, without any problems (including disabling seat belt chime), the technician went through the book of other options I didn't already know about.

Service is quick, efficient and all around good experience. It's a bit of a drive for you (30-45 mins) but better service then what you are getting now.
 
my previous car was a subaru from Russell, I wasn't about to buy a car from them again, I found their service dept. to be understaffed and poorly trained. When it came time to shop for my toyota, I called them, just to see, the kid who answered the phone began each sentence with uuuum. Needless to say, I didn't do business with them.

As far as suggestions, you may try the one in Clarksville, I think it is called Antwerpen, shouldn't be much further for you. Here in Laurel there is a nice looking dealer on Rt 1, but I cannot say I have experience with them even though they are right around the corner from me. I ended up buying from Passport in Marlow Heights, they were the best to deal with over the internet, strait forward and professional, no games.

Koons Tysons is alright - I used to work on the other side of Route 7 on Westwood Center Drive, and bought my Matrix there in '04.

Just keep repeating the words "factory recommended maintenance only" until they do just that. Other than that they never butchered anything on the car, although they left the labels on the TSB catalytic converter when they put that on. Eww.

Yeah, I'm not totally excited to go to Koons since the salesmen at Koons Arlington tried to screw me, but its closer to work than any other dealer. The lady on the phone yesterday said that the maintenance would be free up to 25,000 miles. BUT, if i wanted them to change the oil it would be like $90 bucks. I only have 4200 miles on my truck and it is about 7 months old, so i know i don't need to change the oil, but, i'm thinking about doing it just because.

Thoughts?

btw. I think i saw you at harris teeter off 29 and harrison like last monday around noon. You drive right past me in the parking lot and parked nearby.

I think you need to come to homey's house with the oil, filter, and a six pack, and we can change that.

That was probably the wife - she has taken a liking to the 4Runner, which is nice, because I like driving the Maxima she normally drives.

ETA: I saw another 4RTE, same color and all, tooling around. The hint is where the license plate (err, "tag") is mounted.

Leesburg Toyota has been ok

Leesburg Toyota may be a little far for you but someone mentioned Chantilly, so I thought I would make additional mentions.

I used them for brakes, 90k timing belt change, and some other minor things.

I tried a Goodyear service shop for another issue. I wasn't happy with their service and reduced them to my choice for "State Safety/Emission" testing. The exceed at minimal thought, high volume services.

I do everything else I can... that way I can afford to get better quality parts.
