Need Some Input

I would skip it to be honest..

they are asking a bit much for an 4 cylinder 4x4..

it does look clean though...

what criteria are you looking for? budget? are you willing to travel a little for the right truck?

I would really like to find a 3rz 4x4 stick but I'm not going to over pay for one. I looked on auto trader and there is only 3 for sale around the US. There is also a local guy that has one for sale but the body is pretty beat and has high miles. I am willing to travel for the right one within my budget $7000

Well guys I went to look at the local 3rz 4x4 4r that is for sale with the beat body. It has 210k miles on it but the motor seems to run good. There are a bunch of 4runners at the local salvage yards so it will be really easy to get new doors and rear hatch. He was asking 6500 but there is no way he will even get close to that. I am going to have my friend who is a toyota mechanic look at it first before I make him an offer. Im thinking of offering him 3800 but will probably offer lower. Here are some pics of the 4r

$6500? He's insane! $3500 is too much for that truck IMO. Just curious, why are you strictly looking for 4cylinders now? Is it only because of gas mileage or is there more to it?

I'd pass on it. Looks like he beat on it pretty good. The body will be the last of your worries.

If the body is any indication of how the current owner treated the rest of the truck... I personally wouldn't go anywhere closer to that rig than your pictures have brought me.

Not to mention they must be offer their rocker asking $6500 for a truck that has significant damage to every(?) panel on the thing.

TL;DR: WAIT! DON'T DO IT!

I want a 4 cylinder for a couple reasons. They are easier to work on, handle boost very well, get better gas mileage, and seem to be more reliable than the 5vz.

To each their own I guess. All valid points but I really think you're taking yourself out of a large portion of the market, the 6 cylinders just seem to be so much more readily available. There are a lot of well maintained 6 cylinders out there and they prove to be very reliable engines.

Good luck with your search, whatever you wind up with I'm sure it'll be a good one.

More reliable? How so? What about the guy with 600k on his 5VZ a few months back? Don't 3RZ's need their valves adjusted every so often? I also hear the fuel and oil filters are a serious pain to get to. They also come with the weaker W59 transmission as well. I don't think you should limit your search to only the 3RZ IMO. If you can find a good 5VZ powered truck with a 5-speed, then why not?

I will say that the turbo systems on 3RZ's are pretty cool and I wouldn't mind having one for that.

The owner of that white 4Runner really has a lot of nerve to ask $6500. If everything but the body is good, I would offer $2500 at most.

I just read this, I believe this was my 4Runner for sale haha, Same discription (santa barbara, 207K at the time, minor body damage, timing belt at 130). I ended up selling it for $4,500, great truck just some minor damage from the previous women driver

Ya I see what you mean. It just seems like when the 5vz get in the 200k mile mark things start to go wrong on them a lot. Ya I told the guy he was crazy to ask 6500 and he said well it cause its rare lol.
