Need some pro help!! Shocks, Shocks, Shocks..

Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well!!

I'm looking for new shocks for my 2002 4Runner. I would post this in the "lift information thread", but I do not necessarily want to lift my 4runner anymore than it already is, but I would consider it if you guys think it's a better route to go. I'm looking for some shocks, (preferably Bilstein 5100's) but cannot seem to find any that fit my 2002 4Runner. I've been to a few local shops and they say they cant find any Bilstein's for my model either. I just want to replace the OEM shocks to improve the ride quality, off-road agility, and so on.. I'm having a difficult time finding what I'm looking for and need some help/recommendations!

So far this is what I've found for the Front:
Front Bilstein Height adjustable 5100 shocks - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits

For the Rear: Rear Old Man Emu Shocks (96-02 4Run) - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits

Could I just swap these in and be good to go??? I guess I just really need some help, so please let me know any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

You can just swap out your shocks. From what I can tell, you have a stock height 4runner since your are asking about shocks. Correct? So if that is the case, and you do not want to lift your 4runner, why would you get height adjustable shocks? I would save my money and get some KYB's (I use KYB and love them). If you can afford those shocks then I guess go for them, but I see no point in it if you are at stock height. (I'm lifted running KYB's up front and Procomps in the rear) In the rear the OME shocks will be soft with the stock springs. OME lift runs on a stiffer spring and a softer shock (From what I have read).
 
I have the 2.5 inch space lift going on up front, if I was to lift it with suspension would those work? I'll look up the KYB's right now. I just wanted to get Bislteins.

So you have 2.5" Spacers lift going up front? If yes, pretty much any front shock would work for you. I understand you want bilsteins, but my question would be why would you want these shock in particular being adjustable for lift, if you do not want anymore lift? Also what do you mean by lift with suspension?
 
I dont care for my OME rears. I would go with the bilsteins instead. Spend the little extra and get the 3 inch lift coils as well. You will be glad you did whether you wheel it or not. It will just look better. My two cents
 
Yes, 2.5 inch spacers up front. I'm just looking at these bilsteins because I cannot find any other bilstein 5100s that will work with my rig. Sorry for the confusing message, its because I don't have a whole lot of knowledge about suspension. Pretty much all I want to do is replace the front and rear shocks with some better performing after market brands. Something good for freeway, everyday driving, and off-road use. I need advice on what to get cause I cant find what I'm looking for. I also wanted to get rid of the rear sag, whether its with a leveling kit, or new coils.
 
My OEM rears are sagging a little bit and my 4Runner feels very unstable at freeway speeds, especially on curves and bends. The entire vehicle exaggerates the simplest movements. So I would like to improve that as much as possible.

Personally this is what I would do in your shoes.
You say your rear is sagging? Well your front will look like it's pointing to space with only your front being lifted. (Trust me I installed my front lift first then my rear lift it doesn't look right at all) So I would lift the rear as well or not even install the spacers up front. If you want to get rid of your sag (again lift it) or get new rear coils.
I would get OEM 3" lift coils in the rear. With OME shocks or even ProComp Shocks. Up front since you are going to be running spacers I would get kyb shocks.

For the price of one of those you can get both KYB's.
 
Which OEM coils would you recommend I get for the rear? Are the KYB's pretty good for on/off road, I've never heard of them? If you send me the link to all the parts you would get that would be perfect. I already checked out the first two links you sent me. The nose of my truck doesn't point up or even look bad at all, you can just barely see the sag. But I would like to lift the back 3 Inches, that would look sweet. So which ones would be good for that?

Since you have Spacers up front 2.5" that you are telling me. Seems like you are set up front with lift. Shock wise for the front I really like my KYB's On/Off. However I never take it hardcore off road. But they do handle off roading.

In the Rear I would personally get these coils:
Rear OME 890 Coils (96-02 4Run) - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits
If you ever plan to tow stuff these ones:
Rear OME 891 Coils (96-02 4Run) - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits
With these shocks:
Rear Bilstein Shocks for 96-02 4RUN - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits

Don't forget, you'll want to get an alignment after you lift. (Maybe some 33 inch tires:frog:)
 
Thnx man, you've been a great help. I'm already running 33 inch radial mud claws upfront, They give such amazing traction. Ill go with those 890's and the bilstein's you linked to me. So those parts will be all I need to lift the rear 3 inches? I'm excited just thinking about it. Are their any other KYB models you'd recommend over the version you have linked to me, I just want to make sure I'm getting good suspension up front that can handle occasional offroad and still be good on road??
 
Masson74- Your saying go with what "02_SE_Runner" said for the rear. The 890 coils and Bilstein 5125 for the 3 inch lift. But which adjustable front shocks are you recommending if not the KYB's??

It states these will not work with front spacer kits. Read the description on 'em.

What I linked is what you were thinking of getting. Those wont work for spacers as it states that in the description. Since you have spacers those won't work. (That I know of and it states)
Let's start over.
REAR:
The 890 Coils and Bilstein 5125 will work in the rear.
FRONT:
Your Spacers WILL WORK with the KYB shocks I linked. HOWEVER I do NOT know if they will work with OME Shocks will work with stock coils or spacers. Since they are used with the combo of lift springs I doubt they will work with stock length coils. (Get what I am saying here?) I would go KYB up front, again, because I know that it works and I know they are nice shocks.

Awesome, thanks! I called up wheelers offroad and used the setup you recommended ;) I also found out that they are located about an 1.5hrs away from me, so I'll have the parts pretty fast! Thanks again for your help, and answering all my questions. I feel like I should pay you haha

This is what it looks like right now. I recently removed the brush guard and off road lights. It looks much cleaner without it.
