Ok simply put its time for a proper floor jack. I had no issues with the factory jack and hell it was a good work out. Tho my time is a bit more valuable so what floor jacks do you recommend. Seems a lot are not meant for SUV's.

Quite honestly i really never got down and dirty with the truck anything large i would just pay to play leaving me more time and money for every known to man tool and lift for my 3 track bikes but since they never really need work its time to play with the truck more

So lets here your recommendations from experience and maybe a link or atlas a brand and model number so i can search for it

And i don't need a highlight jack as my truck is the stock height for now :tongue1:

Arcan Quick Rise Professional Service Jack — 3 1/2-Ton Capacity, Model# XL35

It's tall enough to lift a stock 4runner and low enough to lift most smaller cars. It has plenty of weight capacity, it lifts fast when it's unloaded. It seems to be well made and can be serviced in the future (though I don't know where to buy a seal kit or whatever it might need). It is very heavy. The only downside is that lowering is touchy, but I'm used to it so I don't have any trouble lowering slowly.

When I was looking for one, a lot of people recommended harborfreight. In my opinion their stuff is garbage quality and I would not trust it to support anything heavy. I've had hand tools from them fail in ways you would never expect, like the metal completely failing due to poor quality. I have a cheap drill press from them, which is fine, but it can't do too much damage if it fails. Though I wouldn't be surprised if one day it snapped in half and fell on my foot.
 
I strongly disagree about the Harbor Freight jacks. Pittsburgh makes a nice floor jack and I have used one many times without fear of failure.

Get a 20% off coupon and save some cash. Don't go cheap on jackstands. I have a set of 6 ton Tool Shop brand from Menards that are ok, and a set of 6 ton HF jackstands that work fine too. Bigger is better.

I have that exact jack and it is awesome. Had it for a few years now. It is my workhorse. Never let me down (unless I wanted it to).
 
If you research floor jacks, you'll hear a lot of people saying that to get a good jack you should buy American. American-made jacks are $$$$ though.

That said, like the folks who posted earlier, I have an Arcan jack and love it. Mine is a 3.25 XL from Costco.
 
The Jack from Costco is by far the best. I have had everything from Harbor freight, Craftsman, Performance tool, $300 Napa jack. My $99.00 jack from Costco is by far the best and longest lasting. I even bought a 2nd :banana:

As a side note, never trust a jack, no matter the quality. Always use jack stands
 
I don't mean to get anyone's panties in a bunch here.... but the Arcan jacks that everyone is raving about are made in China. So are the Costco jacks (I believe at one time they were Arcan). If you look carefully at the individual pieces and overall shape, it's easy to see that the Harbor Freight Pittsburgh-branded jacks are identical to the Arcans.

So you basically have two options... buy an expensive American made jack (used or new) and spend the cash upfront or to have a used one rebuilt...

or buy a Chinese-made jack and use it as it was intended within the weight-limit rating and have no issues with it. Use jackstands all the time.

As soon as people accept the fact that we live in a global economic environment where most of our steel consumer-grade products are made overseas, the sooner we can all get a good night sleep again instead of tossing and turning over the fact that Chinese steel is lifting up their Japanese steel.

Buy a 3 ton jack. Don't lift more than 6000lbs. Live well, be happy. :whoo:

EDIT: Forgot to add this. I will highly recommend NOT getting a Torin Big Red 3 Ton jack. I currently have one and while it's safe and functional, it's slow and it's difficult to control when lowering.

Another quick endorsement for the Harbor Freight 3 ton , yes I understand some of their tools are worthless, but their jacks have a pretty good reputation...

I usually do use jack stands tho Im not one for laying under cars trucks or anything that can kill me. My time as a medic I have seen enough crushed people from failed jack stands etc. My moto if work needs to be done underneath I'm bringing it to the guy with the lift :blue jump:

Harbor freight jack for 4 years of regular abuse now and it still works like day 1. Its a heavy steel one but it was cheap, low enough to get under cars, and lifts high enough with enough capacity to trucks too.
 
I've had my Crafstman 3-ton jack (which came with two jack stands and creeper) for a few years now. Bought it at Sears. Sears has a good warranty.

Never had any issues. Pair it with a large wood block for lifted vehicles and you're set.

Yeah, I know the Arcan one is made in China. Even though it looks the same as the Harborfreight 3 ton, it's not identical. It weighs about 98-109 lbs depending on the spec you read (have not checked personally), and the Harborfreight 3 ton weighs about 75lbs, depending on which variation you get (why do they have so many???). The Harborfreight 4 ton jack is about 100lbs, but the frame is a different shape, not as low profile.

Arcan seems to be more of a real company than Pittsburgh. It looks like it's owned by Power Station.

It doesn't have to be made in USA to be quality as long as there is some USA design and/or quality control. For example, almost all of Apples products* are made in China, and they are extremely high quality. Arcan jacks are not the best example of this, but it's better than nothing. A step up would be a Chinese made jack from a major American company that's not just rebranding something that everyone else is selling. For example, Snap-On sells Chinese made jacks.

I use this jack from HF. Low profile enough to fit under lower cars, and has a higher lift that most others, 24 3/4", so you don't have to mess with blocks in between the jack and the frame (seems dangerous anyways). I can get the entire front or rear of my lifted runner off the ground with room to spare. You don't want to have to buy a bigger jack when you eventually lift yours ;)
