Need suggestions...

Hello everyone,

I am thinking of getting a 05 SE V6 4x2, I like the X-REAS that comes with the SE. However, I can't find one in Texas that has the curtain & side airbag option. I did a random search on the inventory of dealers in Texas and other states, found that the 4runners at the dealership are configured such that the curtain & side airbag are installed only on the 05 limited 4x2. To make things complicated, the X-REAS and side airbag together can only be found on the 05 limited 4x4. I don't want to spend so much money on the 05 limited, so I figure I have a few options...

Option1- order a 05 SE from Toyota and configured it exactly the way I want. But this takes a few months from what I read.

Option2- buy a 04 limited 4x2 that comes with X-REAS and side airbag. But the 04 V6 comes with 4speed automatic, how is that different from the 5speed for the 05? (Sorry, never pay attention to automatic transmission before, I drive a manual transmission). Also, maybe I can get a good deal on the 04 models???

What do you guys think I should do?

The biggest advantage of the 5speed tranny will probably be slightly better mileage. Also, buying a 2wd SUV kind of reminds me of buying an automatic sports car...kind of defeats the purpose. Never compromise on what you want because of a wait...you will regret it. I say get exactly what you want and wait it out.

You should be able to get a killer deal on all 2004 models right now. Bring your checkbook, wave it in front of them, and watch them dance.

For the 2005, you could try going out of state for the purchase and just driving it back to Texas. Just find a state where they offer what you want standard. I've heard of people doing that before, but don't know the specifics. Check with your local DMV and that of the state you'll be buying from first for your options. You could possibly also get the dealer to do this for you.
