First, I have a 2005 4runner with 49k on it and its been cared for lovingly.
I started hearing a creaking noise in my drivers seat a few weeks ago, and finally took it in to get looked at. The maintenance folks say there are some pins that attach the track to the chair which are starting to wear, causing the chair to rock slightly. The folks at the stealership say that option one is to replace the track and put the original chair on it ($1,000), or to fully replace the entire chair ($2,500). I find it a bit unreasonable that such a repair is necessary and further that it costs so much to do. Has anyone had this problem in the past? Should I try to call Toyota directly and see if they are willing to help? The stealership says they have never seen this kind of a problem, but rather they see the track having been binded or otherwise messed up.
Thanks for the help.
