NEED YOUR OPINION: New idea for a grill (56k warning)

Okay, I know that alot of people like to fancy up their front end up a bit with chrome, or whatever. The two popular choices seem to be a billet/mesh style, or the sashatoshi (sp) grill mods. My idea popped into my head as soon as I saw the grill on my friend's new Mustang Cobra. This isn't his, but you can see the grill very well.

You may notice there is no grill per say, just an opening with the cobra logo "floated" in the middle. My idea is to attempt this with my 4Runner! I think it would add a more burly approach, rather than the "bling" of a billet grill.

This is what I just did with my trusty dremel, and is step one in the process. I simply cut out the top and bottom "small" horizontal connectors:

Now I am at a crossroads. There are two ways I would like to finish the project. Here are two photoshops of the style I might go for:

The first one isn't bad, just doesn't really look any different unless you know what you are looking for. The second one looks horrible in my opinion... Maybe if the mesh were black it would look OK???

although it looks nice...

be careful that a rock or road debris doesn't go right into your radiator and bust it.... that mesh or protection is actaully functional...

The profile of the stock grill didn't provide much protection either. It covered maybe 30-40% of the opening, not even half.

the cobra style with the free floating emblem. yea the mesh grill protects it but it restricts airflow as well

OEM the way to go...

I have a 98 SR5 with 99 grille. And i love it. I looked into some grilles on ebay but nothing looked better than what i already have. In my opinion 99 grille will go nice with 98 Bumper w/ clear signals.

Well sure, i had a little accident in June that i am still fighting with the Insurance company to fix it, but you can still get the idea.

...well it looked nice b4 the accident. If you look closely, the bumper is pushed in making the grille come out that much. otherwise its a good fit. I did not realize it till i saw some 98 SR5s with older grille.

But, i'll put some pix after i get the front end fixed, then u might like it.

i think that we need to photo shop my front grill when you get a chance and add that mesh into the different areas
