Hey what's going on guy!!?
Ok, i bought a 96 4runner SR5 with 105k for $3000 sounds like a good deal right? Well not at all when i bought this 4runner i inherited all the problems of the world:
brakes=bad,
fuel pump=bad,
sunroof=bad,
rear climate system=not working
tie rods=bad
E-brake handle=bad
Also had the pink milkshake so i expected the tranny to give up on me at some point.
I fixed everything invested another $3000 now the icing on the cake, i started getting some white smoke on cold starts about a week or two after i purchased it and i did a little research and didn't like what i read AT-ALL. And a few weeks ago i got a check engine light and idle is a little rough researched some more about it and it seem that engine problem is my fate, horrible experience for a new toyota owner, of course i have only my self to blame. :crybaby::crybaby:

Now here is where i need your help guys. I was going to modify this truck (3" lift 265's or maybe 285's, front and rear armor, trans cooler, TBU), export it where i was gonna hold on to it for at least another 4 yrs.
Now here is where i can't seem to make a decision, should i accept the loss () and get rid of it? Or should i get it fixed since i'm already so deep into the water? Thanks in advance guys!

1st, what do you mean "export it where i was gonna hold on to it for at least another 4 yrs"

I suspect that the truck had more than the reported 105k on it.
But before spending any money on lifting it, would your primary concern be getting it running right?

Getting it checked out by someone who knows these vehicles so that you have a more accurate dollar figure to get it to proper running order should be your main goal.

then you can decide based on further costs whether to keep it.

I was in the same boat. I needed a vehicle to get out of a car payment and I found 96 4Runner 3.4 with roughly 175k miles with motor swap. Cost me $3500 2 hrs away from home.. drove it home with no tags and it sat for a month until I registered it. Well, alternator goes after I start driving it again ($120.00).. I did a a coolant cleaner and it managed to clean it too well and the water pump started leaking. Plus the previous owner was running water instead of recommended coolant thru the radiator. Since I got the water pump replaced I went ahead and got the timing Belt replaced also ($1071.00). Did a tranny fluid change ($85) due to the fluid being blk causing hesitation and it fixed the issue.

Ended up buying a new headlight and seat belts ($250) for the whole vehicle since it caused me to fail inspection. Breaks and rotors ($95) got replaced this past weekend along with some wheel studs due to them being too short so for my peace of mind I replaced every other one with longer studs ($15).

I still have one issue being the Vapor/Charcoal Canister but it's not effecting the performance of the vehicle. I just cant connect my fuel return line until i figure out the true issue with the canister or else the cab gets filled with gas fumes.. ill get to it soon, but after all these headaches I'm keeping it for a while until i get tired of it..

I say keep it.. unless you're hearts just not into it anymore.. driving a used vehicle has it pros and cons. But always be ready to drop money down the road.

A lot of this is normal maintenance that any car with that mileage would need replaced. Your not buying a new vehicle. Have the motor compression and leak down checked so you can find out what is wrong.

I'm exporting it to Haiti and i think the mileage is accurate it's seems that it was very poorly maintained.
And yes i want to get it running well before i start with the modding phase but i need to know what's the wises thing to do at this point. And yes my heart is so into this runner had a lot of plans on how i was going to hook it up
