Neon Under4Runner Lights

I just thought I'd let you guys hear about my latest project. So I was supposed to work today, but as a lifeguard I was told not to come in because of the rain. So I went to my auto parts store and bought Steetglow under car neons. There was no place on the 4runner to install the back tube, so I just did the sides. I put the 3rd tube in the trunk, and I will most likely put the other short tube up front. The lights are blue and everyone loves them. Some thought it would be ricey and look stupid on a 4Runner, but it's the opposite. Its a black 05 sport with tints, blue led footwells, and it looks badass.


I'll start with pics of the vehicle during daytime.




There are 2 tubes in the back now. I didn't like where I'd have to wire it if I mounted it up front and there was no place in the back of the car to mount it, so I figured with my tints that if I could light the trunk significantly, I could create a mysterious look because the cabin would be black and completely private, and the trunk would be bright blue. It was the best decision of the project.

Only problem was I have to run the wire through the door, I have showed the car to about 15 friends and nobody has noticed the black electrical tape standing out against the car. I guess it is subtle, but to me it sticks out. Oh well, as long as nobody knows about it, it doesn't bother me.

Thats cool you like it. Me personally that just draws too much attention from the cops.
Going out a lot, i wouldn't want to give a cop anymore more reason to me over.
Any attention from them is unwanted attention in my book!

Mine only come on when I disable the alarm or open a door and they are white LEDS :xnuts:

i did one of these kits back in the day on my friends accord. turned out nice but his accord was sitting pretty low so the ground lit up nicely.

i would prob do the LED route and not risk breaking a tube.

My grounding place for everything. No need to solder. Just hook the wire, tape it, and the plastic piece that covers it when the side of the seat is re-attached protects it from loosening.

Tube is mounted to the running board. The problem was the center bracket is much lower than the metal that I wanted to run it along. So the tube is bent and I added electrical tape on the bracket to cushion it so the pipe doesn't break. It's working so far.

Fusebox. Has the led and neon wires attached to it. The switch you see is for the LED footwells, I did not feel like drilling a hole and professionally mounting it. I got lazy.

LED on back console. Wire isnt as visible now, as it is in the picture.

Decently clean driver side. The wires for everything are under my seat and run under the door sill, I tucked alot of the wires away in between the dead pedal and the plastic next to it.

My only flaw I think with this setup is that the wires aren't hidden very good, or as well as I would like. I didn't want to drill any holes so I feel like I did a very good job for not wanting to go through the firewall or carpets or anything. I will take pictures of the lights on tonight and post them.

You have a ton of clothes in your ride ha. It looks good I'd want the wires hidden more and the switch in a diff location but overall not bad.

No offense but IMHO, you could tuck-in those wires better than that. Also, i think you need to get a cargo net for your laundry. :lmao: :runaway:

Yeah I'm gonna go back and hide the wires better. The switch im fine with. I turn it on in the morning, and off when I pull it in for the night so it's not like im switching it all the time. I couldn't get night pics tonight, I had places to go. But yeah the clothes is from changing into my lifeguard suit all the time and I never take them out

first off if u want to get the wire from inside to outside of the truck , take the sill and kick panel on the driver side, then u put the carpet up, theres clips on the side that hold it inplace, take the time and unclip it, about 3 or so, then lift the carpet up, u will see a rubber gromet on the floor, use that gromet to feed wires, make a small hole and then use some electrical tape and wrap the wire atleast 12inches where the wire will enter the gromet, using the tape between the gromet makes water tight seal from the hole u made, it will also make the wire not to move, also use a fuse when u tap into a wire, it will be protection, i would mount the light under the body, so it be hidden, but its ok, if u can move the light bar under the body so it be cleaner look, i get very detailed in my wireing.

Almost every state has a law against blue exterior lighting outlawing it... so good luck with that! As for the neon tubes, I had them along time ago on my 98 4Runner, I had a tube shatter about once every two weeks, so good luck with that as well! :bigok:

I'm sorry but this fad was played out over 10 years ago and really looks silly now and attracts unwanted attention. Lose the tubes since they add no real use to your truck and will ultimatly be a waste of money when you remove them after a year or two and most likely you will.

i would agree w. you on the fad but he already bought them so he might as well use them if he likes them.

Fo_SheeZy nailed it..they will break. its bound to happen. there is so much debri flying up under your car there is nothing you can do about it. you can save them for longer if you tuck them up higher. ive also heard of people placing clear packing tape over the tube to protect it a little more. [they dont get hot enough to worry about the tape]

but take the time do the wiring nice make it clean. youll feel better about the install
