Hello Forums. I purchased a 1986 4runner, EFI/SR5 with the 22-RE engine, recently. The first time i took it in for smog, it failed the high speed hydrocarbons by a little, and the Idle HC by a lot(220limit, ran 536). So i replaced the thermostat(and found no thermostat in the vehicle, no wonder it took forever to warm up). I also replaced the cap, rotor, spark plugs, and wires. I also replaced the coolant when placing the thermostat in. I took it back and the high speed passed, with the Idle again running very high(480). The new plugs and stuff brought it down, but there is still an obvious problem.
So my question to all you gear heads is what is causing my high HC? the rest of the smog profile is good, IE CO etc, so i don't think the cat is bad. I can't find any stiff or cracking vacuum lines. Any advise on my next steps to find out why its running high hydrocarbons at Idle?
On another note, the under hood emissions stickers states to place a Jumper on the "T" relay in order to check the timing. Can anyone tell me where this is located so i can check the timing?
Thanks for any help.......
