Never let your family drive your precious 4Runner [minor rear door damage]

Long story short, my relative accidentally backed out of the garage without keeping in mind the height difference between the 4R's roof + the garage door when fully opened. He pretty much snapped apart the part attached to the rear door and is now hanging off the back via tape. It sucks when you let someone borrow your truck and assume they know common sense. He was moving some stuff and needed the rear door open throughout the ride so he left it as he backed out which ****ed me..it's cool though, it was a honest mistake and i can't blame him considering the fact he's a honda owner (small cars is different from larger bodied vehicles!) and probably did not account for a possibility like I always do when I move stuff in my truck, especially if I'm backing out with the door open



I'm here today to inquire about the average estimated price to replace this part if anyone can offer some insight, if at all possible? I will be having it repainted satin black when I get the new part but would like to know the basic costs of having it replaced. I'm going to call my local stealership tomorrow to inquire about the price of having it replaced, including satin black paint job & labor.


However, if anyone should have an extra part laying around for whatever reason...please do not hesitate to contact me to negotiate a price! I would definitely be interested in purchasing the part from a third party rather than the stealership for obvious reasons


Before I go here, I would also like to know the name of this particular part so I can specify what part I need to purchase when I speak with the stealership tomorrow if anyone can help me out with that! Thanks so much guys for taking the time to read my thread. If anyone can check out this picture and give a rough estimate of how much it would cost to repair, that would be great. edit x2: oh by the way, as for the extent of damages done to the part, the plastic is literally snapped on both holes or at least in every hole that was connected to so it's fair to say it will need to be completely replaced rather than supergluing it back on or something!

Uh thanks for your extremely insignificant post? I'd appreciate if there are no further troll posts in this thread, please. I am trying to seek answers and this is not the right course of action to go on about on regard to trolling someone else online. Or did the quality of this forum go down over the years? I haven't been around t4r forums in a while but when I used to be active, everyone was very helpful and did not attempt to troll when I created threads with questions I had. as for you, please don't respond again in my thread. Sorry this happened to you. I dread something like this.

You could reattach it for the time being (and for a while if you are lucky) with something like this:

3M/7/8 in. x 5 ft. Scotch-Mount molding tape 03615 at AutoZone.com

3M Super Strength Molding Tape

I have held molding pieces on for months in situations just like this.

Of course you'll have to be extra gentle hitting the button opening it, and be a little lucky.

Couple of bucks, and you can get it at any auto store.

Here is a guess as to the part:

Looks like #1, Exterior Trim, Lift Gate, Handle



There are different colors, so I am assuming you have black. $162.50

Get a different color, mix it up.

I'm glad the damage wasn't worse.

Go order a new hatch bezel. It's not that hard cheech. The clips broke. Get over it. You now join 90% of the TC owners. Either fix it right or throw some duct tape on it like they do. Take a second and get over yourself while you're at it.

That's what I was thinking too. Really lucky that it didn't cause a lot more damage. These pieces can be found on ebay as well. I'd go with a used one over the cheap junk you'll find on there.

I did not know I was crying to the world about my broken clips. Re-read my original post as well as my response to #2 post and respectfully point out where I was complaining about....broken clips? Haha. Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning (probably the couch due to wife hating your habit of modding). Stay salty, man. P.S. that was an adorable reason for your edit, only if you invest all of that troll energy into something productive

But yes, the rear door overextends that touches the actual garage door when it's fully opened and my relative did not account that particular variable when backing out of the garage. Totally a honest mistake and it is what it is. Thankful that the damages were not worse beyond this as I'm a recent graduate with bills to pay!

oh good, someone was able to hold your hand and get you the answer that was waiting for you if you had taken the time you spent writing your post to actually search for the part on egay or many of the toyota parts catalogs online. good thing for the peasants around here to do all your searching, or important people like you would go nowhere in life. forgive us here on T4R for taking more than 10 hours to get you an answer, lord.
