New 05 V8 Sport Questions and comments

Just bought a new 2005 4Runner Sport (Black) with the new 270HP V8. Well, I've had it about a few months now and about 4400 miles on her.

Comments: LOVE the power. Off the line, the thing keeps up or beats MANY cars. Quite impressive. 0-60 in 7 flat?
Hate the seats. The seats are too low or too close to the floor. Took off the side running boards because I constantly rubbed my suite pants on them (dirty) when getting out of the vehicle. CD system is not too bad. Ride quality is superb with NO rattles! XREAS system works nicely. Build quality is tops!

Questions:

Any mods for this vehicle (CAI, exhaust, chip)? I only run 87 octane. I think you get more HP with 93 octane? Because the computer is "Intelligent" a chip might not work? The exhaust could certainly be freed... Dont want loud....


So far I love this vehicle.

Welcome to the board!

K&N has a FIPK (Fuel Injected Performance Kit) Intake system. TRD Exhaust works, but you are unable to have a Spare because of the XREAS suspension. And I think JET can reprogram the ECU for more performance (requires you sending out your ECU to them)

Sounds like my truck.

As far as mods, were limited to a few filters, and some cosmetic upgrades.

You can look into some exhausts (borla,TRD) but if im not mistaken, they dont fit correctly....yet.

For second there I was thinking WOW a supercharger on your new V8 4Runner??? WOW!!! .... That thing must fly! Good one!

I had a 2003 Mustang SVT Cobra (Supercharged 4.6 - 390 HP stock). I LOVED that car. But had too hard a time with baby-seat in the back and getting my kid in and out. The car was NASTY fast! I only put an exhaust, chip, and smaller blower pulley (less than $1800 installed) and the car did a 12.0 @ 118 on street tires with bad shifting and mediocre driver (me)..... Car was sick quick.... I think I dynoed around 480 RWHP.... Probably 525 at the engine.... Most people would giggle like a child when I gave them a ride in it and nailed the throttle from 10MPH to about 90MPH. What a rush....

Sold the Cobra and bought a 2003 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer. the Expy was in the shop 45 days the first 18 months. I fought Ford through there Dispute Settlement Board (DSB) and WON! I got ALL MY MONEY BACK!! Including the negative equity on the Cobra rolled into the Expy!!! Owned the Expy for 20 months and got Every dime back! Ford is crap but their DSB is fair!

LOVE this Toyota!

Any idea how the new generation 4Runners do off road and especially in the SAND? I do wander out on the Outer Banks of NC each year. Power should be fine... Clearance seems a bit week but not bad.... Tires are so so.... Should be ok in deep sand?

How about towing? Says 7000 lbs.... Seems a bit heavy for its weight....

Also: What's up with the Sport Edition getting bigger brakes?

If I could just get her to run 0-60 in 6 flat....

My 02 Highlander gets something like 190HP with 87 octane, 205 with 89 and 220 with 91+ octane. Is the 05 4Runner V8 the same way?

Says I can run 87-93 octane. I usually run 87. I've tried 89 and 93. I think I hear a small ping every now and again on 87 during WOT. Do I get more HP with 89 and even 93?

I understand the Intelligent computer adjusts the fuel, air, and timing to the various octanes via sensors?

can I ask how you came up with that conclusion, a 15hp increase with every grade is sweet but it's highly unlikely, the Highlander is no different then the V6 camry/avalon engines, they run at optimum levels on 87 and for an added performance increase they can run on 93 but at a slight lose of gas mileage, they don't lose hp running on 87.

Also gotta keep in mind that Toyota had the 190hp V6, then upgraded to the 210hp V6, then switched out the 4speed auto for a 5 speed auto and then upgraded the 210hp engine to the 230hp engine: torque also improved nicely, I doubt it was the gas, what year was your Highlander.

That would make the 270HP V8 with premium have 300hp: and the V6 model would have 275hp, you would see a lot more guys in here running premium for that much power, that would add for some interesting V6, V8 discussions
