New '08 SR5 Owner w/Dumb Questions

Hi Guys,

Been lurking on here for the last few days and reading lots of great info. Found what I think was a pretty decent deal on an '08 SR5 4x4 with 32k on the clock and the Toyota Platinum Power-train warranty. Got her dirty on the way home from the dealer!

Couple of questions:

- The rig didn't come with the factory roof rails and it sort of looks like a bread van without them. Toyota wants $800 for the factory rails. No newer 4Rs sitting at wreckers to scavenge off of. What year rails will fit (any 4th Gen? or 06+)?

- It came with the (useless) optional 3rd row seats. I yanked them out already. The ass end of the truck appears a bit higher than most of the other 4 Runners I see. Do they change the springs/shocks in the back on 3rd Row Seat models? If so, do I just need a front leveling kit to improve the looks a bit?

- On the stock suspension, what is the biggest tire that I can fit onto the 16" wheels with either no rub or minimal rub at full steering lock?

I think all the 4runners come with the tilt you speak of. Higher in back and lower in front. And there is MUCH debate and discussion on leveling kits around here.

Maybe you can eBay the 3rd row seats to a soccer mom or something.

As far as roof racks, ouch. That is a lot of dough for the factory rack. Maybe you can look at wrecking yards and see if they have one from a smashed runner? Not sure what kind of aftermarkets are out there, but I've seen some guys on here with some awesome non-factory racks.

I know they all sorta come like that, but mine seems, well... more so:

Hard for me to tell though, since my neurons aren't able to spot minute differences in 4 Runners from 3 miles away like some of the folks on this forum.

It seems that the 3rd Row seat option brings with it a whole host of changes to the rear interior compartment. Hard points in the floor for the seats to engage into when down, seatbelts and trim. I think the best I can do is relegate the seats to storage and yank out some of the more pesky interior bits (like the belts).

No kidding! $800 is just a fracking ripoff if you ask me. Any pointers to aftermarket racks?

I've called the local wrecking yards and they just don't see a whole bunch of new 4Runners around.

See 3rd post for roof rack info. Seems you were looking at MSRP, unless I am missing something myself (entirely possible).

Welcome to the forum! I've got the same model as you minus the 4x4 and no third row seats. I've got that tilt you mention and i've seen it on plenty of 4R's in my area, so I'm pretty sure it's normal. Leveling kits would def. get the level look you're wanting.

Post a WTB (want to buy) in the classified section here and at toyota120.com. A lot of guys go to aftermarket racks and someone may be willing to part with theirs.

Rake is definitely normal on the 4th Gens.

3rd Row Seats

Hi-I need 3rd row seats-would you be willing to sell them? I have an '08 SR5 and would really like them. Are they easy to install? Do I need special tools? I live in WA State. Please let me know-thank you.

Val, You may not be able to install the 3rd row seat if your truck was not equipped with them originally - the cargo bay is outfitted differently and you do not have the necessary attachment point, seatbelts, etc...

Try car-part.com.I have purchased a few things from salvage yards using that link.If you can't search for roof racks,search for a generic part for a 03 to 09 4Runner,you will get dealers that have those model year 4Runners in their yards.I just bought a JBL Synthesis head unit in new condition out of an 08 for $125 using that link.Call them and ask about the roof racks,most 4Runners come equipped with them.Any of those years will fit.Good luck.

Not sure what spacer company is best, I just went with Daystar. Got it off Amazon of all places for $120 shipped. I got my wheel spacers from All-Pro Off Road for $175. I had to call and request them hub and wheel centric, not on their site 1.25. Now the truck looks like it should have from the factory. I think a 265 70R17 will fit on stock with minor rubbing.
