I took the plunge last week and traded in my 2006 4Runner Limited V6 2WD for a 2008 4Runner Limited V8 4WD. I ordered the truck a little over a month ago and was happy to discover one in the exact configuration that I wanted was already on the boat on its way to this part of the country.
The new truck has the same outside color (Galactic Gray Mica) and interior leather color (Stone) as my old truck with the addition of XREAS, DVD Navigation and the rear spoiler. AND it has Michelin tires to boot!
The leather seems to be a little thicker and grainier than my previous truck and it is more comfortable. The truck seems to be tighter handling (XREAS) and better built too. The V8 sounds great and doesn't click like the V6.
I traded in my V6 for the V8 4Runner because I needed (wanted) a truck to tow a camping trailer as well as function as my daily driver. I really like the size of the 4Runner, so I decided to stick with it instead of going to a larger truck, such as a Sequoia or Tundra. The daily driver thing may change as the price of gas continues to rise into the stratosphere. I'm considering buying a Yaris or a Corolla for my daily driver and keeping the 4Runner as my weekend and towing vehicle. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
All in all I love it and I'm glad I made the decision to upgrade to the V8 4WD.
My previous truck was a demo and was missing things such as the rear cargo area cover, documentation, hitch cover and a couple of other things. The new truck had all those items plus the rear cargo net. Very cool.
I always thought the spoiler was just for looks, but I'm definitely wrong about that one. The spoiler really works as far as keeping the rear window clean. My 2006 4Runner did not have the rear spoiler and the rear window used to get very, very dirty. Not so with the new truck with the nifty spoiler. I've been through 2 rain storms and driven 300 miles this week and the rear window is still pretty darn clean. Very nice and very surprising.
For mods I installed the following this past week:
1) Installed the Dice iPod interface to the Nav unit (works and sounds great!).
2) Hardwired my Valentine 1 radar detector.
3) Toyota locking wheel locks.
4) Toyota TRD locking tire stems.
5) Stainless steel Valor exhaust tip.
I'm planning to add on the Toyota OEM bug shield this week before we drive up to Ohio this coming weekend.
