New 3rd Gen from Colorado!

Hey all,

I got my first Toyota last week. 2001 4WD Black with 130K on the odo. I've wanted a 3rd Gen T4R for awhile, always liked them better than the 4th gen body style. (See pics) :biggrin2:

It already has matched tint on driver/passenger side windows and a 5 inch windshield strip, Viper remote start, and Pioneer MP3/Bluetooth CD Player, and a fresh oil change. Brakes feel good, engine has plenty of power, pretty good gas mileage.

I had 2 fox body Mustangs, Nissan 240SX, Porsche 944, Audi A4, and now my T4R! I'm pretty stoked to finally have some room to pile friends in and go up to the ski mountain. I also know if these trucks are taken care of, they'll run forever, so I'm excited about that too. (Something I was always worried about in the Audi).

I grew up in a car family so I've always taken meticulous care of my autos, and have fun working on them (with some big electrical/mechanical jobs left to the pros).



Some planned maintenance/upgrades ---

Done:
Switched to 87 Octane fuel (who knows what was being run before).

Replaced Stock Panasonic (!!) battery with Duralast Gold due to a little longer turning over than I liked in cold weather. Now it starts right up.

Replaced dirty K&N air filter with standard new air filter. I didn't see it was a K&N until after I bought the new one, so I just plan on buying a cleaning kit in a couple months.

Replaced both tail/brake light bulbs with Sylvanias (driver brake light out)

Planned:

Orderd NGK plugs and NGK wires (hopefully get them done this weekend)

Bosch Fuel Filter

Pioneer Replacement Remote (yes I'm a sissy)

rear Cargo Cover from a user

Sylvania Silverstar Ultras

new antenna (currently doesn't go all the way down, rusted)

new transponder key (currently only have 1 metal key and keyless entry)

toggle-able daytime driving lights.

OME shocks/medium coils for 1.75-2" lift and upgraded ride quality (rear is also sagging a tad)

install halogen fog lights (don't think mine currently has any)

LED interior lights

LED/bright gauge and center console lighting

Timing Belt/water pump

and all the other 100-130K recommended maitenance (transfer case, diff oil, tranny, crank case).

85 octane is fine for our trucks and running 87 at our altitude has no benefit except to the gas companies wallets.

At 130k I'd consider changing out your radiator in the next year or two instead of getting a tranny cooler since you will need a new radiator eventually and don't need to add the extra cost.

Also check your rear axle seals by making sure your drums are dry on the backs of them.

Nice, thanks. Rear axle seals, will check out this weekend. I'm assuming that's a known issue.

I plan on doing a little trail driving once I get some upgrades done, at this point I don't think the trucks ready (or dependable) enough to do much. I really want to get my suspension done, drive system oil/fluids and filters done, check seals and what not first. Thanks though!
