New 4r owner.. What is this?

Hey guys, recently bought a very nice 2000 4r LTD with a lift and 285/75 16 wheels. I really like this truck its my first 4x4 and I can't wait to go and test it out on some dirt road.
The truck had this box with the connection unplugged, the plastic connection is broken so I had to zip tie it together but I don't know what is it for. Its inside the front driver side fender next to the battery, does any of you know?

That is the daytime running light module. It is VERY common to disable the DRL (day time running lights) by either cutting a wire under the dash or in the previous owner of your vehicles case unplugging that relay.

Catalina, I know it's been talked about before by cutting that wire aka the DRL MOD., BUT wouldn't it easier (If that's all it takes? since I haven't tried it on mine yet) to just remove the fuse ?

Removing the fuse is different than unplugging the DRL relay. When I pulled the DRL fuse from the underhood fuse box my lights didn't work at all. However, unplugging the relay pictured above is supposed to disable the DRL without hampering the operation of the headlights (which is exactly what cutting the black w/ yellow stripe wire).

If one has the DRL module under the hood it makes more sense to me to unplug it rather than cut the wire. However, many of us don't have the DRL underhood module/relay so our only option is to cut the wire.

You can get the Ultras online at Amazon for $35/pair :shrug:

I'd like to try out the new ZXE by Sylvania. They're supposed to be better than the Ultras.

Yeah, but that would mean waiting/delivery time and she is my DD. :ybrick: lol

ZXEs huh? I may try that after my new set burn out. since mine only seem to last between 12-15 months.. Of course going back to removing that relay will extend their life. Thanks for the info catalina34
