New 4R problems, mostly electrical, ideals?

So as some of you may know, i got a '87 4runner a few days ago. Here is the current list of problems with it:

* Gas gauge drops off at half a tank, then goes back up.. etc

* Oil gauge remains at 0

~ When i flash, brights work, when i switch to bright lights, they go dark

+ rear window doesnt work

* throttle looks like its missing parts and has been homemade, revs
between gears because the throttle takes 3-5 seconds to go back to idle

+ rear wiper doesnt touch window

* had the alternator checked at walmart, they told me there is a "charging
system problem" But its not the battery, but i disconnected the battery
while the car was running and it kept going, so i dont think the alternator is bad.


* I have no idea what to do
+ I might know where to start
~ I have a possible solution

If anyone has any inputs, or perhaps theyve seen seen a thread on here that might help me a bit that would be awesome to hear about! I bought one of those Chiltons car manual things, and so far iv not been able to find anything in it that im looking to repair.. maybe im looking in the wrong sections =(

might want to check yota tech for help also may want to go thru the trk and check out all eletrical for shorts and corrosion

Fuel gauge sending unit in tank is dirty. Remove it, remove it's cover, and use some electrical contact cleaner on the windings.

Could be the oil gauge or the sending unit on the engine.

The contacts in the combination switch for the lights may be dirty. Look here Toyota 4Runner and Pickup: Brighter Head Lights

Rear window could be a number of things and "doesn't work" isn't much to work with.
But this may help 4Runner Rear Window Cheap Tricks

Rear wiper, may be the spring that provides tension, the arm may be bent, or oil may need a shot of oil at the hinge point.

Alternator problem - not enough info. what makes you think there's a problem? why did you have it checked? what symptoms?

Basically the back window, the button doest work, nor does the key into the tailgate. I have a '90 runner also iv done rear work on before, so when its not 20 degrees outside ill ahve a look at this one too.

and i had the battery and such checked because of things like when the blinkers are blinking the mattery meter flicks up and down, and the battery is never at full charge. Walmart said that the battery is fine, but it does not pull load very well and told me to check my "charging system" then i did that alternator text that o'relies told me to do, and it passed.. so i dunno where to go from here.


Also, if anyone would be willing, i need a picture of the little throttle thing on the 22re engine. (The part that the gas pedle is cabled to) because mine is missing parts and i want to see what it SHOULD look like. ill post a pic of mine soon

I had a pic of the linkage posted online but pulled it just last week cause I needed the room.

Have you checked the fuse (or is it a circuit breaker) for the rear window?
It could also e the motor is bad, or something in the control module.

Check the battery voltage, should be 14-15 volts when running and 12.6 when engine is off. Try charging the battery fully and then do a load test.

Can someone give me a link to a sie or thread for repairing a rear window, hopefully with pictures? Iv been searching but i cant find anything like my problem

also, i have no idea where the fuel gauge or anything is, im going to search for help on that but if someone can help here thatd be great! =)

Did you try the link above for the rear window ?

The fuel guage sending unit is in the fuel tank. There's an access plate under the rear seat.

hahaha yeah... after i got offline i realized how stupid that question was.

Did you see my accelerator? the second wire is not connected to anything, and you can see the crimped and frayed first cable. the silver spring i just put in, its stiffer than the other spring that was in it, it has made the time it takes to go back to idle go down a little, but not enough to make a difference while shifting.

Iv noticed that on my dash, my oil, gas, battery (i think), and temp guages do not work. Is it more likely at every one of these senders are broken, or that my dash has a bad ground? Where would that ground be?

The inst panel ground is on the left, 2 ground wires IIRC.

How do i know if the fuel sender thing is broken or needs replaced? I havent taken it out yet, bcause i need to get the car home before i start taking it apart, its the round thing thats screwed to the top of the gas tank right?
