New 4Runner / 4WD Question

Hey all! I am the happy owner of a 2006 4Runner limited w/ 38K - so it's almost new While driving home I realized I was still in 4WD, (which has really tripped me up as I forget it's on with the smooth center diff and all.) Anyhow, I turned the switch to H2, but the system never actually disengaged, and I came to a bend in the road :frusty: while making my turn I heard some popping (nothing too loud) and could feel slight binding. I realize what I did was bad, but being unfamiliar with the 4th gen electronic system I am not sure if I did any damage. Does anyone have any thoughts? Being that I just got it I'm still in the honeymoon stage and am a bit protective over the rig. Thanks all!

You should be fine. Just make sure you have the drive mode engaged before you drive next time. Enjoy your new rig.

Oh man hate to say it but its not good. Could be up to $5000 to fix it...lol. Just kidding but man, 38,000 miles? Thats awesome!!!

You don't want to make it a habit, but it's not a big deal. Here's some reading if you want to feel better (you'll have to really want to feel better).

Thanks all for the replies! I'll be sure to engage and disengage 4WD while moving straight ahead, I really appreciate everyone's input: this does make me feel better! I also noticed that the system shifts more quickly if I slightly step on or release the gas, hopefully this truck will last many years of less than easy driving!!
