New 4runner! Got a few questions

Hi guys!

My names Jason and I live in San Diego. I bought a 2000 4runner SR5 4x4 e-locker with 208k miles the other day and I'm in love! It's in awesome condition and a blast to drive!

I'm a bit confused on some things though so I wanted to see if anybody could help me out...

The dude I bought it from said it came with an offroad package from the factory/dealership (can't remember) that included a hood scoop, exhaust, and intake. Does anyone know if that's the trd package? Or if it included anything that the owner forgot to mention?


On my old 98 Tacoma the stock tires were 225 and when I put on 265/70/16 the speedo was off. It would read 60 when I was really doing 65.

On the inside drivers door information sticker of the 4runner it says the stock tires are 225 on a 15" rim. The tires that were on it when I bought it were 265/70/16 on what looked like stock 16" rims from Toyota.
I measured to see how accurate the speedo in the 4runner was and it would read 60 when my gps read 58.
It doesn't seem like its off like I would expect it to given the way it was in my Tacoma. Was the speedo recalibrated or something? Or maybe it possibly the wrong sticker on the door?

I'm excited to get out and hit some trails! I'd really like to meet some others in the area to go with too so hit me up!

Base model 4runners came with 225s and the upgraded packages came with the 265s but still had that 225 tire sticker for some reason.

Congrats on the new Runner man! And it did come with a more offroad capable package. This is the Highlander edition. Not a TRD, yet it did come with the Hood Scoop, the larger 265 tires, and (this is the best part) the coils sit 1 inch higher than stock. Almost like a factory lift option. It has also been said that they sit almost 1.5 inches higher than the 01-02 models which sit lowest. Best of all, you have a locker, all that combined make this an ideal starting point if you're gonna be wheeling. As for the speedo, you only see a major change if you go from 265/70 to 265/75. And it may not be that bad since yours had 265 factory wheels. My 97 did have 225s on it when I got it. Now my speedo reads 38-40 when I'm doing 45. Biggest difference I've seen was the speedo reading 67 or so at 75 MPH. Anyways, congrats on the Runner again! This is a great rig as it is, can't wait to see future plans and mods for it to make it even better!

Congrats! Welcome to the site. Make sure to always use this site when doing mods, maintenance, and or upgrades. So much information on here. I didnt know i have the "highlander" package until owning my 4Runner for a year thats to this site!
