New 4runner owner questions

I picked up a 2005 v8 4x4 sport with 89k on the clock. So far I have three questions.

I am getting 12.5 mpg including a brief stint on the highway (doing 90 mph for a bit). I'm assuming its just too much right foot since the average seems low but the plugs should still be ok. I'm going to temp check the calipers after the next drive to see if they are seized but I don't feel them dragging and it doesn't pull in either direction. Anything else I should check?

Second question is around the radio. My radio looks like this:

It seems to have been replaced with a 2006 radio but there is no AUX connection. I searched here but I only found threads asking how to add the aux but none on how to accomplish this. Is it easier to just replace the head unit and if so, can I use any old head unit without losing the sub?

Lastly, I know I need to do a timing belt soon. How hard is this to do myself? I can change oil, replace pads/calipers/rotors, and I can flush brakes. I don't have a lift but I have some good 2.5 ton floor jacks and jack stands as well as rhino ramps.

Touching 90 in a 4x4 and spending only "brief" time on the interstate is a sure way to hit 12 MPGs in a V8. Normal for the beast.

I obey the speed limit and try to keep my foot out of it when I can and I can bag 17 MPGs mixed city/highway if I try.

If you are talking about the factory sub and you have the jbl system and you have a choice between OEM and aftermarket then is go Pioneer every time and get either the PAC TATO or Metra TYTO which is the necessary harness for the jbl system. They both go for like $110 from the companies. But do some shopping I got my PAC TATO for $50 at newegg.com. An as far as mileage goes you won't have great mileage with a full time 4x4 V8 to begin with. I get about 16 with pressing the peddle to here the monster only every so often. It's something you'll get used to after a while. And I can't help you with the timing belt haha.

^this i average about 16.5 in my v8 mostly city driving. Any takers on the timing belt?
